During Summit in Shanghai, Countries Strengthen Strategic Ties in Energy Transition with Focus on Renewable Investments
At the Valor Brazil China Summit, held in April 2025 in Shanghai, the Brazilian government highlighted the alignment with China in the commitment to energy transition. While the Asian country plans to expand its capacity in solar and wind energy by 200 million kilowatts, Brazil sees this movement as a unique opportunity to attract investments and strengthen its global presence in the clean energy sector.
Brazil Bets on Energy Alignment with China
The growing synergy between Brazil and China in the field of energy transition was evident during the Valor Brazil China Summit, as highlighted by CBN. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated that the two countries share the same vision regarding the decarbonization of the global energy matrix. According to him, this connection can drive the arrival of strategic investments to Brazil, leveraging the immense national potential in clean sources such as solar and wind energy.
Silveira also highlighted that China “understands the greatness of Brazil” in the energy sector and that this recognition could generate practical results in the coming years, with direct investments in projects on national territory.

Northeast Establishes Itself as a Showcase in Renewable Energies
The representative of Huawei, Victor Zhang, drew attention to the growing role of the Brazilian Northeast in the expansion of solar and wind energy. During the event, he mentioned that the region has abundant natural resources and has been receiving robust investments from the Chinese company, which views Brazil as a strategic territory for large-scale sustainable projects.
With states like Bahia, Piauí, and Rio Grande do Norte leading this expansion, the Northeast has become a showcase of how Brazil can transform its energy landscape by attracting technology and foreign financing for clean sources.
Brazil’s Stability Attracts Global Investors
Economist Jorge Arbache, also present at the meeting in Shanghai, reiterated Brazil’s attractiveness for investments in renewable energy. In his view, in addition to having favorable climatic and geographical conditions, it possesses a strategic differential: it is distant from geopolitical conflicts that affect other major regions of the world.
This stability, according to Arbache, reinforces the confidence of foreign investors and positions Brazil as one of the safest destinations for long-term project development in the energy sector.
Brazil Strengthens Its Position as an Energy Partner of China
The presence of Brazilian authorities such as the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, and the Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, demonstrated the joint effort between the federal government and states to strengthen ties with China. CBN highlighted that the event served to consolidate Brazil as a strategic partner in the global advancement of renewable energies, alongside an industrial powerhouse like China.
