During summit in Shanghai, countries strengthen strategic ties in energy transition with focus on renewable investments
At the Valor Brazil China Summit, held in Shanghai in April 2025, the Brazilian government highlighted its alignment with China in its commitment to the energy transition. While the Asian country plans to expand its solar and wind energy capacity by 200 million kilowatts, Brazil sees this move as a unique opportunity to attract investment and strengthen its global presence in the clean energy sector.
Brazil bets on energy alignment with China
The growing synergy between Brazil and China in the field of energy transition was evident during the Valor Brasil China Summit, as highlighted by CBN. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated that the two countries share the same vision regarding the decarbonization of the global energy matrix. According to him, this connection can boost the arrival of strategic investments in Brazil, taking advantage of the immense national potential in clean sources such as solar energy and wind energy.
Silveira also highlighted that China “understands the greatness of Brazil” in energy sector and that this recognition could generate practical results in the coming years, with direct contributions to projects across the country.

Northeast establishes itself as a showcase for renewable energy
Huawei representative Victor Zhang highlighted the growing role of the Brazilian Northeast in the expansion of solar and wind energy. During the event, he mentioned that the region has abundant natural resources and has been receiving robust investments from the Chinese company, which sees Brazil as a strategic territory for large-scale sustainable projects.
With states like Bahia, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte leading this expansion, the Northeast has become a showcase for how Brazil can transform its energy landscape by attracting technology and foreign financing for clean sources.
Brazil's stability attracts global investors
Economist Jorge Arbache, also present at the meeting in Shanghai, reinforced Brazil's attractiveness for investments in renewable energy. In his view, in addition to having privileged climatic and geographic conditions, it has a strategic advantage: it is far from geopolitical conflicts that affect other large regions of the world.
This stability, according to Arbache, reinforces the confidence of foreign investors and positions Brazil as one of the safest destinations for the development of long-term projects in the energy sector.
Brazil strengthens its position as China's energy partner
The presence of Brazilian authorities such as the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, and the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, demonstrated the joint effort between the federal government and states to strengthen ties with China. CBN highlighted that the event served to consolidate Brazil as a strategic partner in the global advancement of renewable energy, alongside an industrial power like China.
