System Created by Parnaibano Reuses Electric Car Battery with Solar Panel, Ensures Home Autonomy and Places Piauí at the Center of Clean Energy Innovation

What started as a sophisticated workaround to solve a household problem of power outages has transformed Piauí into the center of innovation in clean energy in Brazil. In Parnaíba, Piauiense Tibúcio Frota developed a system that uses solar panels to charge the battery of an electric car during the day and at night, has that same battery power the entire house, ensuring autonomy even when the conventional grid fails.

The idea originated in 2023, from the frustration of frequent power outages in a region with high humidity and instability in the grid. Tibúcio already had solar panels installed but continued to suffer from interruptions. After discovering an electric vehicle capable of releasing energy through the charging plug, he decided to experiment with his own solution, unknowingly placing Piauí at the center of innovation in domestic clean energy solutions.

From Frustration with Power Outages to a Creative Solution

Tibúcio explains that the origin of it all was simple. He had solar panels, had made investments, but still found himself in the dark when the grid went down. Upon seeing online the launch of an electric car with technology that allowed it to release energy through its charging port, the insight emerged: buy the car not only for personal use but also to address the energy issue in the house.

The first version of the system combined what he already had in solar panels with the electric car’s resources. During the day, the sun’s energy charged the vehicle’s battery. At night, the battery released energy back to the residence, keeping lights, refrigerator, air conditioning, and other appliances running even without the utility company. The success was so great that the homemade solution evolved from being just a makeshift fix to becoming the foundation of a more ambitious project that would help solidify Piauí at the center of innovation in renewable energy.

How the System with Solar Panel and Reused Battery Works

About a year after the first experiment, Tibúcio decided to expand the project. Instead of relying solely on the battery of his own car, he began to reuse batteries from accidented electric vehicles acquired at auction, integrating everything into an off-grid system with hybrid operation capability.

The heart of the solution is a hybrid off-grid solar inverter that can work disconnected from the utility grid or in hybrid mode with grid support. The system consists of the inverter, the reused batteries, and a module he developed, which is now in the patent process. This module acts as a translator of languages: it receives data through the communication cable, converts the information, and bridges the gap between the battery and the inverter, allowing the components to communicate correctly.

In the words of the system’s creator, “here it speaks one language, here it speaks another, and the module translates to make it happen”. The practical result is a solution capable of keeping a house with air conditioning, refrigerator, and lighting running all night, with autonomy estimated at up to eight hours of sleep, always based on energy generated and stored renewably. It is this kind of smart domestic use that helps place Piauí at the center of innovation in solar energy and electric mobility.

Chinese Giant Shows Interest in Technology Made in Piauí

Tibúcio’s inventions were not limited to the walls of his own home. A Chinese company, recognized as a global giant in various segments, including electric car production, began to closely monitor the solution created in Piauí. The company, which has already been showcasing innovations at major automotive events, saw in the Piauian system a tangible way to bring electric car energy into homes.

The company already had equipment designed to connect simple devices like fans and televisions, using the vehicle’s battery in specific situations, such as trips and outings in remote areas. Tibúcio’s differentiator was integrating this logic into a homemade solar system, with a hybrid inverter and its own communication module, allowing an entire household to stay powered for long periods from the energy stored in electric car batteries.

In practice, what started as a solution developed to address an individual problem began to be seen as a marketable technology, with the potential to help many families and make Piauí the center of innovation in clean energy projects connected to electric mobility.

Piauí at the Center of Clean Energy Innovation

The creator himself admits he didn’t imagine the proportion his idea would take. He has always liked technology but had no plans to sell an invention to a global giant. External recognition and the interest from the Chinese company reinforce the perception that solutions born in ordinary homes, in cities like Parnaíba, can influence how the world consumes energy.

The adoption of the system by an international brand helps project Piauí at the center of innovation, especially in a high-impact field like domestic energy consumption based on renewable sources. The combination of solar panels, electric car batteries, and locally developed control electronics shows that innovation is not limited to large industrial centers.

As technology advances, the hope is that more homes can take advantage of this type of solution, reducing dependence on the grid, gaining autonomy, and contributing to the expansion of clean energy in Brazil, with Piauí at the center of innovation that inspires other regions.

And you, do you believe that solutions like Tibúcio’s can spread throughout Brazil and firmly establish Piauí at the center of clean energy innovation, or do you still see many obstacles to this happening?
