6×6 Armored Vehicle Enters Advanced Evaluation Phase and Brings Brazilian Army Closer to a New Leap in Engineering Modernization

The Army Evaluation Center, CAEx, has progressed in the preparation of the armored vehicle 6×6 Guarani with Engineering Implementation – Phase 2, in another significant step of the Brazilian Army’s modernization process. The project is conducted under the Directorate of Engineering Material, DME, and the Directorate of Manufacturing, DF, in partnership with IDV LATAM, a company of the Leonardo Group.

The current phase precedes an intensive testing campaign that begins in the week of April 13 to 17 and is expected to conclude on June 18. The schedule shows that the work has entered a decisive moment, focusing on performance, mobility, and validation of the embedded systems for use in engineering operations.

In practice, the Engineering Guarani seeks to enhance troop support capabilities in complex missions, with resources aimed at land marking, surface clearing, and mine detonation. It is an important step to raise the standard of efficiency, protection, and operational versatility of the Land Force.

The advancement also highlights the integration between research, development, evaluation, and military operation. This model reduces failures, aligns the project with the real needs of the troops, and strengthens the national capacity to develop defense solutions with greater autonomy.

Complete Instrumentation of the Platform Prepares the Guarani for a Battery of Tests on Mobility, Braking, Speed, and Obstacle Crossing

The most recent technical work was conducted by the Vehicle Testing Laboratory, LEV, a structure linked to CAEx. Under the leadership of Captain of the Military Engineers Corps Mayara Magalhães Carvalho, the team carried out with IDV the complete instrumentation of the platform, an essential step for the start of field evaluations.

This instrumentation allows for precise monitoring of the vehicle’s behavior during tests. Thus, the Army can measure essential data to verify whether the armored vehicle meets the performance requirements needed for engineering operations in varied environments.

Among the scheduled tests are braking, maximum and minimum speed, turning radius, acceleration, and obstacle crossing. This set of evaluations is fundamental to prove the mobility of the Guarani 6×6 and its ability to operate safely in scenarios that require robustness and quick response.

Phase 2 Implements Will Be Tested in Technical Demonstrations That Measure the Real Utility of the Armored Vehicle in Support of Engineering Troops

In addition to mobility tests, the campaign includes technical demonstrations of the implements incorporated into the Phase 2 of the vehicle. These resources are designed to expand the armored vehicle’s operational scope in missions supporting troop mobility and security.

Among the planned systems are the land marking system, the surface cleaning equipment, and the mine detonation set. These items meet typical demands of military engineering, especially in operations that require clearing paths, preparing areas, and neutralizing threats on the ground.

In practice, it is not enough for the implements to function in isolation. What is being evaluated is the integration of these systems with the Guarani platform, the behavior of the set in motion, and the ability to deliver results under conditions of use close to operational reality.

This type of validation is decisive because it prevents a vehicle from reaching the troops with limitations not perceived in the development phase. When the testing is rigorous, the gain appears later in the form of greater reliability, reduced risk, and better performance in missions.

Support from the Engineering School Battalion Strengthens the Tests and Brings Technical Evaluation Closer to the Practical Experience of Those Who Will Operate the Systems

The evaluation effort is supported by the Engineering School Battalion, BEsE, which provided qualified military personnel to operate the implements during the tests. This participation helps ensure greater precision in executing activities and improves the interpretation of results obtained in the field.

The involvement of operators with practical experience makes the process more complete. This is because the evaluation is not limited to the numbers collected by instruments but also considers aspects of ergonomics, response time, ease of operation, and tactical suitability of the system.

This integration between research and development bodies, testing and evaluation structures, and the troops themselves reinforces one of the most important foundations of successful military projects. When all links participate, the final product tends to be more aligned with the real needs of the Land Force.
