Bridgestone, One Of The Leading Tire Brands In The World, Announced This Week The Closure Of Its Passenger Car Tire Factory In Santo André, SP.

With the company’s decision, about 600 employees will be laid off, which represents about 18% of the total workforce at the facility. According to Bridgestone, the move is part of a restructuring process and aims to concentrate the factory’s production solely on tires for trucks, tractors, off-road vehicles, and pneumatic springs of the Firestone Airide model.

Despite the layoffs, the company stated it is working with the union and its employees to minimize the impact of the decision on affected workers. There are no details on whether there will be hiring at the Bahia factory, which will start producing passenger car tires that were previously manufactured at the Santo André facility.

Bridgestone is a Japanese multinational with a strong presence in the Brazilian market and has been operating in the country for more than 90 years. The company is one of the leaders in the tire sector and supplies equipment for passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and agricultural and construction machinery.

The Decision To Close The Factory In Santo André Is Part Of A Restructuring Strategy Of The Company.

According to the brand, the measure was taken after a business and market evaluation, aiming to optimize the portfolio, processes, and culture to continue serving the needs of consumers and the market.

Production of passenger car tires will be transferred to the Bahia factory, which continues to operate normally and is responsible for manufacturing other brand products. The company states that the decision was planned to ensure the company’s competitiveness and determine the best allocation of resources.

Despite The Deactivation Of The Factory In Santo André, Bridgestone Will Continue To Invest In Other Areas Of The Country.

At the beginning of this year, the company announced that it will invest R$ 475 million in modernizing its factories in the state of São Paulo over the next few years. The investment includes the expansion of research center activities, increasing the production of high-performance tires, and enhancing retreading and new tire sales services.

Bridgestone is one of the leading tire companies in the world, and the decision to close the factory in Santo André is seen as a resource optimization strategy in an increasingly competitive market. The brand continues its path of investment in the country and remains committed to meeting the needs of the market and consumers by offering innovative, high-quality products.
