Bridgestone, One Of The Leading Tire Brands In The World, Announced This Week The Closure Of Its Passenger Car Tire Factory In Santo André, SP.
With the company’s decision, about 600 employees will be laid off, which represents about 18% of the total workforce at the facility. According to Bridgestone, the move is part of a restructuring process and aims to concentrate the factory’s production solely on tires for trucks, tractors, off-road vehicles, and pneumatic springs of the Firestone Airide model.
Despite the layoffs, the company stated it is working with the union and its employees to minimize the impact of the decision on affected workers. There are no details on whether there will be hiring at the Bahia factory, which will start producing passenger car tires that were previously manufactured at the Santo André facility.
Bridgestone is a Japanese multinational with a strong presence in the Brazilian market and has been operating in the country for more than 90 years.
