Electric hatchback from the Chinese brand arrives renewed with a stronger engine, design changes, more embedded technology, and strategic internal adjustments amid increasing competition in the Brazilian market

The new BYD Dolphin 2027 is about to hit the market with important changes that go beyond the visual. The model, which has already been launched in China and has been tested in Brazil since the end of last year, promises more power, improvements in the interior, and even the removal of a controversial item that divided opinions among consumers.

The information was disclosed by Autoesporte, which closely followed the model in the Asian country, along with additional data from the Autos Segredos website.

This new movement occurs at a strategic moment, as the Brazilian electric car market is becoming increasingly competitive. Models like the Geely EX2, which will be produced in Brazil, along with the MG4 Urban and the GAC Aion UT, promise to compete directly with the Dolphin.

New more powerful engine and improvements in range

First of all, the main change in the BYD Dolphin 2027 is in the powertrain. The entry-level GS version now features a new electric motor, the same one used in the BYD Yuan Pro.

This setup delivers 177 hp of power and 29.5 kgfm of torque, a significant leap compared to the current model, which has 95 hp and 18.3 kgfm.

Additionally, the battery has also received a slight update, increasing from 44.9 kWh to 45.1 kWh. Despite this, the official range in Brazil has not yet been disclosed by Inmetro. However, in the Chinese CLTC cycle, the model can reach up to 410 km.

On the other hand, the Plus version, the top-of-the-line model, maintains the engine with 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm of torque. This configuration, along with a new special version, uses a 60.5 kWh battery, already known from the 2026 line, with a range of 330 km according to Inmetro.

Charging times remain practically the same:

  • GS version: 22 to 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% at fast chargers of up to 60 kW (DC)
  • At a 7 kW (AC) wallbox: up to 8 hours
  • Plus version: 30 minutes at fast chargers of up to 88 kW (DC)
  • At AC chargers: up to 10 hours

Renewed visual and larger dimensions

In addition to the mechanical part, the design of the BYD Dolphin 2027 has also been updated. At the front, the headlights have a new shape, with greater integration to the front grille and a DRL outline.

The bumper has been redesigned and is slightly more pronounced, including a new air intake.

At the rear, the changes are more discreet but symbolic. The “Build Your Dreams” inscription has been removed and replaced with the acronym “BYD,” following the brand’s latest visual identity.

Another important point is the growth of the model. Now, the electric hatch measures 4.28 meters in length, which is 16 cm more than before.

On the other hand, other dimensions remain unchanged:

  • Height: 1.57 m
  • Width: 1.77 m
  • Wheelbase: 2.70 m
  • Trunk: 345 liters

More modern interior and end of controversial item

Meanwhile, the interior of the BYD Dolphin 2027 has undergone a significant overhaul. The steering wheel is more modern, and the center console has been completely redesigned.

One of the most talked-about changes is the removal of the rotary gear shift button, which was located below the multimedia center. It has now been replaced by a lever positioned on the steering column.

Additionally, the car now has fewer physical buttons, making way for larger screens:

  • Digital panel: from 5 inches to 8.8 inches
  • Multimedia center: maintains 12.8 inches but loses the rotating function

This last item was considered controversial, and its removal is likely to please part of the audience.

Another highlight is the repositioning of the induction charger, along with the inclusion of a space that can function as a mini fridge or heated compartment.

New materials are also expected in the seats and interior finishes, raising the level of sophistication of the model.

More technology and advanced safety package

Finally, the BYD Dolphin 2027 also evolves in technology. The model now features the “God’s Eyes” system, an advanced driving assistance package.

This system includes:

  • 12 cameras
  • 5 ultrasonic radars
  • 360° vision
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Fatigue alert
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Traffic sign recognition

Additionally, the hatch comes standard with:

  • 6 airbags
  • Traction and stability control
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • ABS brakes with EBD
  • Isofix

In the top-of-the-line GS version, the model also features a central airbag and the option for a panoramic sunroof.

Arrival in Brazil and market expectation

The BYD Dolphin 2027 is already confirmed for Brazil and is expected to arrive in stores by 2026. In fact, there is an expectation that the next imported batches will already bring these updates.

In light of this, the model arrives better prepared to face increasing competition in the compact electric car segment.

With more power, new technologies, and strategic changes in design and interior, the hatch promises to continue being one of the main highlights of the Chinese brand in the country.

Do you think the BYD Dolphin 2027 has the potential to continue dominating the electric car market in Brazil?
