Caixa Econômica Federal Adjusts Limits and Fees: Up to Four Monthly Withdrawals Remain Free, After That There is a Charge. In Self-Service, the Limit is R$ 2,000 from 6 AM to 10 PM and Drops to R$ 300 from 10:01 PM to 5:59 AM. Lottery Outlets Allow R$ 5 to R$ 5,000 and Banco24Horas Varies per Transaction

The Caixa Econômica Federal begins 2026 with adjustments that directly affect those who still depend on cash, even with the popularity of Pix. The main practical change is the charge for withdrawals after the monthly limit of free withdrawals, along with withdrawal limits that vary by time and channel.

The package also reorganizes the planning of the account holder on a day-to-day basis, as nighttime withdrawals now operate with a much lower ceiling, while withdrawals at lottery outlets and specific accounts follow their own rules. The effect is a more predictable routine for security, but more restrictive for those who need cash outside of business hours.

What Changes Practically in 2026 for Those Who Withdraw Cash

The Caixa will begin to charge when customers exceed the number of free withdrawals for the month. In checking accounts, the general reference is four free monthly withdrawals, following a rule that is usually associated with the Central Bank, but the bank can apply its own rules and specific service packages.

In practice, this means that the free service is not “unlimited.” Exceeding the free monthly limit, the withdrawal becomes charged, both for savings accounts and checking accounts.

Withdrawal Limit by Time in Self-Service

The Caixa maintains a model with different limits based on time slots, justified by security and alignment with the aforementioned Febraban guidelines. During the day, from 6 AM to 10 PM, the limit in self-service terminals is R$ 2,000.

At night, the ceiling drops significantly: from 10:01 PM to 5:59 AM, the limit is reduced to R$ 300. The logic is to reduce risk during times of greater vulnerability, even though this may cause inconveniences for those needing to withdraw outside daytime hours.

How Lottery Outlets, Banco24Horas, and the Amount per Transaction Are Affected

Limits also change according to the channel. At lottery outlets, there is a much broader range, allowing for withdrawals between R$ 5 and R$ 5,000, which provides flexibility for those needing larger or smaller amounts without depending on the bank’s self-service.

In self-service terminals and the Banco24Horas Network, the presented reference is for withdrawals between R$ 500 and R$ 1,500 per transaction, varying according to the customer’s account. At night, security restrictions remain in effect, maintaining the reduced limit during nighttime hours.

Caixa Tem and Digital Social Savings with Their Own Rules

The Caixa also operates with specific limits for the Digital Social Savings linked to Caixa Tem. In this case, there is a right to 2 free monthly withdrawals.

Furthermore, the amounts per operation vary: withdrawals can range from R$ 20 to R$ 1,200 per transaction. Regular checking and savings accounts follow the standard of Caixa’s terminals, with the hours and channels rules applied as described.

Why Does Caixa Apply Lower Limits at Night and What Is the Official Argument

The central justification is security. The Caixa points out that the adjustments aim to prevent fraud and increase customer protection, supported by Febraban guidelines. Lower limits during the night serve as a barrier against larger losses in risky situations.

Even with this logic, the practical recommendation for account holders is simple: periodically monitor the limits on the official channels and plan larger withdrawals for daytime or channels with broader limits, like lottery outlets, when this makes sense.

Do you think that the Caixa is protecting the customer with these limits and charges, or is it pushing Brazilians toward Pix against the will of those who still depend on cash?
