The New Monthly Production Record for the Búzios Field Was Achieved in June, When the Asset Operated by Petrobras Reached an Average Production of 616 Thousand Barrels of Oil Per Day
Last week, it was announced that the Búzios field, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, reached a new monthly production record during the month of June. According to information shared by Petrobras, the asset achieved an average production of 616 thousand barrels of oil per day.
The figure represents an operational efficiency of 95%, making it the highest average monthly production volume ever reached by the field since its operations began in April 2018.
Of the total volume produced, 91.7% corresponds to Petrobras, meaning that 564 thousand barrels of oil per day were generated by the company. The remaining partners, in turn, account for 8.3% of the production (51 thousand barrels of oil per day). The record result was achieved thanks to the operation of four platforms in the field, namely: P-74; P-75; P-76; and P-77.

Petrobras Plans to Start Operations of New Platform in Búzios Field in 2023
Next year, Petrobras also plans to initiate the operation of the fifth production unit in the area, the FPSO Almirante Barroso. The expectation is that the vessel will produce up to 150 thousand barrels of oil per day, in addition to processing up to 6 million m³ of gas.
Furthermore, with the new platform, the Búzios field is expected to reach 33% of the oil production obtained by Petrobras by the year 2026.
Recently, the company’s production development director, João Henrique Rittershaussen, highlighted that Petrobras currently has 11 FPSOs under execution. Additionally, there are two more units under contracting, Búzios 9 (P-80) and Búzios 10 (P-82).
In this context, the executive added that the proposals were received in May and that, so far, the prices for Lot A, which aims to contract P-80 for Búzios 9, have been finalized. Lot B, on the other hand, is in the negotiation process. In this bidding process, the best bids were submitted by Keppel Shipyard.
About the Búzios Field
The Búzios field, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, is the largest deepwater oil field in the world. According to Petrobras, it is a world-class asset, with high-quality oil, substantial reserves, low risk, and low extraction cost. It is located 180 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, at a depth of more than 5,000 meters.
The operation of the Búzios field began on April 20, 2018, through the P-74 platform. Búzios was the first field under the Production Sharing Contract regime, while the P-74 was the 13th platform to operate in Brazil’s pre-salt.
