Launch Retires The Name Uno, Inaugurates New Generation Of Argo, Bets On Light Hybrid Technology, National Production And Repositions Fiat In The Compact Hatch Segment
Fiat has already defined the brand’s main launch in Brazil for 2026. The compact hatch that will replace the Argo will not bring back the name Uno. Instead, the manufacturer has officially confirmed that the model will be called New Argo. The novelty will be based on the European Grande Panda, but adapted to the Brazilian market and produced in Betim (MG).
The confirmation came directly from Fiat’s CEO in Italy, Olivier François, putting an end to months of speculation about a possible return of the name Uno. Although the historic name remains retired, the automaker decided to maintain a familiar identity to preserve the connection with the Brazilian public.
Moreover, the launch is part of a larger strategic movement by Stellantis, which is preparing a broad renewal of its national lineup over the next few years.

Billion-Dollar Investment Supports National Production And New Generation
The New Argo is part of the plan for 40 launches by Stellantis in Brazil between 2025 and 2030, made possible by a R$ 30 billion investment announced in 2024. At the same time, the model reinforces the celebrations of 50 years of Fiat in Brazil, celebrated in 2025.
The new generation will directly replace the current Argo, which will leave the market after the arrival of its successor. Unlike the current model, the New Argo will feature a completely redesigned project, including platform, engine, and technology package.
In Europe, Fiat launched the Grande Panda in 2024. Brazilian journalists have already tested the model in Italy. However, the brand confirmed that the national version will undergo specific adjustments to meet the driving conditions, fuel, and requirements of the Brazilian market.
Light Hybrid Flex Engine Defines Fiat’s New Strategy
In Brazil, the New Argo will come with two mechanical configurations. The entry-level version will use the 1.0 Firefly aspirated engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission, maintaining a focus on cost and simplicity.
This engine delivers 71 hp and 10 kgfm with gasoline or 75 hp and 10.7 kgfm with ethanol, numbers already known from Fiat’s portfolio. However, the higher versions will concentrate the most technological advancements.
In these versions, Fiat will adopt the 1.0 turbo flex engine with 12-volt light hybrid technology, the same setup present in the Fiat Pulse and Fastback SUVs. In this case, the power reaches 130 hp with ethanol and 125 hp with gasoline, always with 20.4 kgfm of torque. Additionally, the model will use a CVT with seven simulated gears.
Meanwhile, in Europe, the Grande Panda offers electric and 48-volt light hybrid versions, in addition to exclusively combustion options. Nevertheless, Fiat chose to prioritize light hybrid flex technology in Brazil, which better adapts to the national infrastructure and the use of ethanol.
Dimensions, Platform And Safety Elevate The Hatch Standard
Despite the mechanical differences, the New Argo will maintain the same dimensions as the European Grande Panda. The hatch will measure 3.99 meters in length, 1.76 m in width, 1.58 m in height, and 2.54 m in wheelbase. Additionally, the trunk will offer 412 liters of capacity.
These measurements are quite similar to those of the Citroën C3, a model that uses the same platform, reinforcing Stellantis’s structural sharing strategy.
Visually, the New Argo will stay true to the European model. Still, Fiat will promote specific changes. The main alterations will appear in the front grille, the bumpers, and the removal of the model name stamped on the sides. Internally, the hatch will maintain most of the European design, focusing on modernization and ergonomics.
However, the biggest advancement appears in safety. The New Argo will feature six airbags as standard and a complete package of driving assistance (ADAS). Thus, the model will make a significant leap compared to the current Argo and better position itself against direct competitors.
New Argo Targets Polo Track And HB20 And Redefines The Segment
With national production, light hybrid engine, increased safety, and modern visuals, the New Argo arrives with the mission of repositioning Fiat in the compact hatch segment. The model will take on rivals like Volkswagen Polo Track and Hyundai HB20, betting on greater energy efficiency and onboard technology.
Although Fiat has yet to disclose prices, expectations indicate competitive values. The brand is expected to leverage the industrial scale of Betim and Stellantis’s billion-dollar investment to keep costs under control.
Thus, Fiat definitively closes the era of the Uno, but preserves its main strategy in Brazil: local production, volume, efficiency, and continuous technological evolution. With this, the New Argo emerges as one of the most relevant launches of 2026, with the potential to alter the balance of the popular car market in the country.

Infelizmente a FIAT vai acabar com um dos hatchs mais bonitos já produzidos. Ao invés de substituir, trabalhem na modernização do Argo. E tragam novas cores.
