With Capacity to Meet the Equivalent of 15% of the NE Demand, the Thermoelectric Plant Is Set to Enter Commercial Operation in January 2020
Last Wednesday (20), CELSE obtained two authorizations that inaugurated the final stage of implementation of the largest and most efficient natural gas thermoelectric plant in Latin America: UTE Porto Sergipe I. The actions involved the approval of agencies such as ANP (National Agency of Petroleum and Biofuels) and ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency). The signatures obtained by the Company included permission for the Pre-Operation of Brazil’s first private LNG terminal, allowing regasification and the movement of gas to UTE Porto de Sergipe I, issued by ANP; and the release of the four generating units to begin Test Operation, with a total generation capacity of 1.5GW, issued by ANEEL.

Thermal Power Plant in Rio Grande do Sul Is Key to Attracting GWM
UTE Porto Sergipe I is expected to enter commercial operation in January 2020 and aims to convert liquefied natural gas into electrical energy. The thermoelectric plant will have a capacity equivalent to 15% of the energy demand of the Northeast, adding significant energy availability for the entire National Interconnected System.
With an investment of R$ 5 billion in cutting-edge technology, the project, located in the Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Complex, in Barra dos Coqueiros, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Aracaju (SE), will drive the socioeconomic development of the region and generate job expectations.
About the Company
CELSE (Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe S.A), a company created by the Brazilian EBRASIL – Eletricidade do Brasil and Golar Power, was founded in 2015 for the generation and commercialization of electric energy from gas thermoelectric generating units. The company was successful in the New Energy Auction A-5 in April 2015, establishing 26 contracts to enter commercial operation in January 2020.
