New Contract for Managed Pressure Drilling Services to Be Opened by Petrobras on the Next 5th and Is Expected to Stimulate Suppliers
To meet the demand for Well Pressure Management Services on the Surface (Managed Pressure Drilling – MPD), Petrobras will open on the next 12/05 commercial proposals for the provision of services related to the development of this technique. The contract period will be 540 days, with a mobilization period of 120 days. Also see that the 17th Bidding Round for Offshore Fields is authorized by the Government.
Currently, the state-owned company has at least two contracts involving MPD activities that are in force. One for flow diversion in the riser with Weatherford, worth US$ 82 million and ending in May 2020, and another with Halliburton, worth R$ 35 million and ending in February 2020.

A Petrobras explains in the announcement that during the drilling operation in regions with thick salt layers, in intervals with HPHT problems (that is, high pressure and temperature) or long horizontal sections, there is usually an increase in pressure at the bottom of the well, which can cause operational problems and consequently non-productive time.
For this reason, the industry has focused on the development of Managed Pressure Drilling techniques, which aim to manage pressures at the bottom of the well, with the goal of reducing the number of stoppages due to well problems and significantly decreasing non-productive time.
