Chevrolet Prepares Launch of an Innovative SUV Based on the Onix, with a Unique Design, Powerful Engine, and an Affordable Price, Promising to Attract Consumers.
Chevrolet is preparing a new SUV that promises to heat up the Brazilian automotive market, with a launch forecast for the last months of 2025 or early 2026.
The model will be a new addition to the brand, based on the Chevrolet Onix platform, but will not be confused with the Tracker, a well-established model from the automaker.
According to the website Mobi Auto, although the name of the new vehicle has not yet been revealed, the SUV is in an advanced stage of development and will soon begin production, as revealed by sources in the automotive industry.
-
Less than a Tera TSI, up to 710 km of range and charging in 9 minutes: the new BYD Song Ultra expands the Chinese brand’s bet on increasingly faster, more technological, and competitively priced electric SUVs.
-
With a 1.0 engine producing 75 hp and costing less than R$ 70,000, Fiat’s car returns to the podium as the cheapest in the country; a temporary promotion for the 2026 Like version reduces the price of the Fiat Mobi.
-
With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.

With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.
According to information obtained by Mobiauto, production of the new Chevrolet SUV is already scheduled for the last quarter of 2025.
The chosen location for the model’s manufacturing will be the brand’s plant in Gravataí, Rio Grande do Sul, which is also responsible for producing the Onix.
The expectation is that the new SUV will share some parts and even the GEM platform, which is already used in the Tracker and the Onix itself, potentially resulting in a vehicle with good cost-benefit and technical characteristics similar to the brand’s most popular models.
This new Chevrolet model will be a direct competitor to other compact SUVs in Brazil, such as the Volkswagen Tera, the Renault Kardian, and the Fiat Pulse.
Despite this, it should not compete directly with the Tracker or the Onix, as the brand’s strategy is to segment its portfolio well, offering options for different price ranges and audiences.

What Will the New Chevrolet SUV Be Like?
Although details about the design of the new SUV are still scarce, it is expected to follow the aesthetic trend that Chevrolet has been adopting in its recent launches.
The brand is likely to apply the same visual language already seen in models like the S10, Trailblazer, and Spin, meaning that the new SUV will have a robust and modern look, with well-defined lines and design elements that give personality and strength to the model.
However, even with its own identity, it is possible that the SUV will share some similarities with the Onix and the Tracker, especially in terms of wheelbase.
The expectation is that the new model will have a wheelbase of approximately 2.55 meters, a measurement that positions the SUV between the more compact models and the larger ones.
This design strategy will allow the new model to have enough space to offer comfort without losing the agility characteristic of urban SUVs.
What Can We Expect in Terms of Performance?
In terms of performance, the new SUV’s engine should follow the successful line of the Onix and Tracker, with options for 1.0 naturally aspirated and 1.0 turbo engines.
These engines are quite efficient for the Brazilian market, offering a good combination of power and fuel economy.
The 1.0 naturally aspirated engine, which will be used in the entry-level versions, is expected to deliver up to 82 horsepower and 10.6 kgfm of torque.
On the other hand, the 1.0 turbo version, more powerful and aimed at higher variants, can achieve up to 121 horsepower and 18.9 kgfm of torque.
The turbo model has undergone recent updates to meet the new Proconve PL8 emission standards, resulting in a power increase due to the use of direct fuel injection.
Additionally, Chevrolet is preparing for future environmental requirements, with the expectation that these engines will remain on the market at least until 2027, when emission regulations will become even stricter.
This means that the new SUV from the brand will be a model prepared for the future, with an engine that ensures good performance while also meeting existing environmental standards.
What Will Be the Impact of the New SUV on Chevrolet’s Portfolio?
Chevrolet already has some established models in the market, such as the Onix and Tracker, and the new SUV comes to complement this line, without threatening the success of these vehicles, which will continue to be sold in parallel.
The brand seems to be following the same strategy that other automakers have adopted with the launch of smaller models positioned below more traditional SUVs, such as the Volkswagen Tera, which will occupy a place below the Nivus and the T-Cross.
Other brands are also creating models below their most successful SUVs.
Honda, for example, is preparing the WR-V, which will sit below the HR-V, while Fiat already has the Pulse, which is positioned below the Fastback.
Nissan is also expected to launch a new model below the Kicks, expanding options in the compact SUV segment.

When Will It Be Possible to See the New SUV in Testing?
The official launch of the new Chevrolet SUV is still distant, but in the coming months, we can expect the model to appear camouflaged in testing on Brazilian streets.
These tests will help the brand fine-tune the vehicle’s final details and evaluate its performance under real usage conditions.
It is possible that Chevrolet will use the Onix as a “mule” to conceal the design of the new SUV, conducting performance tests and mechanical adjustments without revealing much about the vehicle’s final look.
The Future of Chevrolet’s Compact SUV
With production starting in 2025 and sales expected in 2026, the new Chevrolet SUV promises to be one of the brand’s major bets in the Brazilian market.
It arrives to compete with established models, but with the advantage of being a new model that brings technological and mechanical innovations while maintaining Chevrolet’s tradition of quality.
Meanwhile, the SUV market continues to expand in Brazil, with various brands offering options that cater to different consumer profiles.
The launch of new models, such as the Onix SUV, contributes to making the market more dynamic, providing consumers with more choices, always promising more affordable prices, innovative design, and good performance.
Now, the question remains: do you believe the new Chevrolet SUV will be able to win over the Brazilian audience and stand out among competitors? Share your opinion in the comments!
