Wind Farm in Chile by EDP Generates 83 MW Clean/Year and Prevents 140,000 Tons of CO². Investment of US$ 120 Million and 350 Direct Jobs.

EDP has just inaugurated its first facility in Chile. The Punta de Talca Wind Farm represents an investment of US$ 120 million and will contribute 83 MWp to the Chilean National Electric System. The company is committed to generating clean and sustainable energy, preventing the emission of 140,000 tons of CO² per year.

Chile, an important South American country, is increasingly investing in renewable energy sources. The partnership with EDP brings significant benefits not only for the country’s energy development but also for the local economy, generating 350 direct jobs. This is an important step toward ensuring a more sustainable and resilient future for Chile and its population.

Punta de Talca: New Complex in Chile

After inauguration, the renewable energy complex in Punta de Talca, located in Chile, had the presence of the country’s Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow Lorenzo. The installations consist of 14 wind turbines that will contribute 83 MW to the National Electric System of Chile, generating annually clean energy equivalent to the consumption of 95,000 homes in the region. Additionally, the project will avoid the emission of 140,000 tons of CO² per year.

Total Investment and Economic Impact

With a total investment of US$ 120 million, the complex generated over 350 direct jobs during its construction phase, thus boosting the regional economy. The Minister of Energy emphasized the importance of Chile as a key market for clean and renewable energies, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainability.

Future Developments in Chile

EDP South America, operating in Chile since 2021, manages a portfolio of projects totaling around 1000 MW, including wind, solar, and storage developments. In 2023, the company won a public tender to develop over 300 MW of renewable energy projects in the Taltal district. Additionally, EDP has signed agreements to develop three wind energy projects in the Ñuble and Los Ríos regions, totaling over 450 MW capable of generating clean energy sufficient to supply approximately 650,000 homes per year.

Global Presence of EDP

The EDP group operates in 30 markets and is present in different regions, including South America, where the company has significant assets. In Brazil, EDP operates in various segments and offers energy solutions aimed at the B2B market, such as distributed solar generation and electric mobility. With a Distribution business that serves millions of customers, EDP reinforces its commitment to sustainability and innovation worldwide.
