China Has Just Developed and Installed the World’s Largest Wind Turbine. The Equipment Will Be Used for Offshore Wind Energy Production, Generating 13.6 MW.

Coinciding with the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China, which opened last Saturday in Beijing, China put into operation on Sunday its latest technology in the field of offshore wind energy: a wind turbine with a capacity of 13.6 MW, making it the most powerful in the Asia-Pacific region.

Wind Turbine Guarantees Enough Offshore Wind Energy to Supply 30,000 Homes

The diameter of the rotor of the wind turbine installed in China is 252 meters, making it the largest in the world. The new equipment can generate up to 63.5 million kWh per year, ensuring the supply for 30,000 homes with three people each.

The new offshore wind turbine from China has the highest single-unit capacity in the Asia-Pacific region and the largest rotor diameter in the world. The use of the turbine would boost the country’s offshore industrial modernization and also drive the transformation of its energy structure.

It is important to remember that China installed another large offshore wind turbine in June as part of a technology advancement project. According to reports, the construction of the turbine was designed to withstand challenging conditions at sea, capable of resisting a typhoon that occurs every 100 years.

Called Fuyao, China’s giant platform was transported from Maoming, in southern China, to a location 11 kilometers off the coast in the South China Sea. This site was chosen for the installation of the wind turbine due to the water depth, which can vary between 52 m and 68 m, and also because of its complex seabed.

Siemens Gamesa Takes Its First Giant Turbine with Recyclable Blades into Operation

The first recyclable wind blades from the company are running in a turbine at the offshore wind farm in the city of Kaskasi, Germany. This is the first commercial-level installation and operation of wind turbine technology with recyclable blades.

The company’s highly technological set is named RecyclableBlade and was installed in the turbines of the German plant, being produced from various materials embedded in resin. According to information from Siemens, the separation of resin, fiberglass, wood, among other materials, was performed using a mild acid solution.

Siemens also emphasizes that these materials can then enter the circular economy, allowing for the development of new products, such as bags or flat screen casings, without needing to resort to other or additional raw resources.

Offshore Wind Energy Market Receives New Technologies

World Wide Wind, a company based in Norway, has developed a new project for a floating vertical axis wind turbine. The project has the potential to completely transform how offshore wind energy is utilized.

The company’s new concept promises to generate double the power of the largest traditional turbines currently available on the market. Utilizing two sets of blades that tilt and rotate in opposite directions, the company claims that its large wind turbine has the potential to reach heights of up to 400 meters.

The technology can release unmatched power and density, which may result in a significant reduction in the cost of offshore wind energy.
