Cisco Offers 1000 Scholarships for Free and Online Technology Courses Across Brazil. The Goal Is to Reduce Gender Inequality in the Sector
Cisco, from Brazil, is offering free and online technology courses in networking for cis and transgender women across the country. The initiative, titled Woman Rock It, was launched in support of International Girls in ICT Day, a global movement aimed at motivating girls and women to engage in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and is aligned with Cisco’s purpose of promoting an inclusive future for all.

The first stage is qualifying and includes the Networking Essentials course, which lasts 70 hours and must be completed by June 20. Conducted in self-learning mode, with basic level English content, the program teaches how to plan and install a home or small business network using wireless technology, promoting hands-on practice in troubleshooting network and internet connectivity issues, and also teaches how to recognize and mitigate security threats, among other skills.

The 1,000 students classified in Networking Essentials will begin the first module of the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) 7.0, a training in networking with international recognition in IT career, which will be delivered via video conference through Cisco Webex.
The CCNA consists of three modules in Portuguese, in which the students will learn the necessary functions to support operations both for companies and for small retailers. The students will be qualified to build simple local area networks (LANs), develop practical knowledge of IP addressing schemes, as well as dominate basic network security and perform basic configurations for routers and switches.
Requirements to Apply for Positions in Cisco’s Free and Online Technology Courses
- Be a woman;
- Be over 16 years old;
- Must have internet access and a computer with an i3 processor or equivalent, Windows 10, 4GB of RAM, and 27GB of hard disk space.
Classes are already available. Each participant has until 3 PM on June 20 to complete the qualifying course Networking Essentials.
