The Investment Made by CMA CGM Was Secured by a Contract Signed Between China State Shipbuilding and Provides for the Construction of 16 Methanol and LNG-Powered Container Ships
A new record in the container ship sector! CMA CGM, along with China State Shipbuilding Corporation, signed a billion-dollar contract for US$ 3 billion that provides for the construction of 16 methanol and LNG-powered container ships, according to the website Portos e Navios.
The contract signed between the two parties is considered the largest ever made by the Chinese ship industry in financial terms, according to local media.
The contract made for the construction of ships involves 12 methanol-powered biodiesel vessels with a capacity of 15,000 TEUs and 4 conventional dual-fuel LNG-powered ships with a capacity of 23,000 TEUs.

The German ship Bottsand splits its hull in two halves in the middle of the ocean to swallow spilled oil on the surface, separating the oil from the water inside a 790 cubic meter tank and then closing again. It is the only ship in the world factory-designed to split in half as part of normal operations, and the crew of six people who operate everything is civilian.

With almost 70 meters in width at the stern and a shape resembling a “giant slice of cheese,” the Ramform Titan tows up to 24 seismic cables to sweep the ocean floor in 3D and reveal oil reserves hidden beneath kilometers of sediment.

With a length of 225 meters and a capacity of 76 thousand tons, this ship “sinks” its own deck down to 28 meters deep to accommodate war destroyers, oil platforms, and giant radars floating above, and then emerges with everything intact on top like a colossal tray crossing oceans.
The Signed Contract Is the First Ever Made for Methanol-Powered Ships Weighing Tons
The signed contract for container ships between the companies is the first order ever made for methanol-powered vessels, with the agreement considered a record in the methanol shipbuilding industry due to the investment allocated for the construction of the methanol ships in the contract.
About the Companies
The company CMA CGM is the third-largest carrier in the world by capacity and supports, along with its competitors, the use of methanol as fuel.
Maersk, the second-largest carrier in the world by capacity, has ordered 16,000 TEU methanol-powered vessels. Meanwhile, Cosco, the fourth largest, ordered four container ships of 16,000 TEUs last week, one of which will have a dual-fuel methanol engine and three will be ready to use methanol.
More About Ships: Petrobras Advances in the Sergipe Deep Waters Project with Contracts for Drillships
Petrobras has initiated the contracting process for the chartering of two drilling platforms intended for the Sergipe Deep Waters (SEAP) project, located in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, approximately 100 kilometers off the coast.
The contract, announced by the oil company on Monday night (3), aims to increase the availability of national gas and open a new frontier for production in the Northeast.
The units of the FPSO type (floating production, storage and offloading) are considered strategic for the Sergipe Deep Waters project. READ MORE BY CLICKING HERE.
