Alagoas Government Program Offers Free First Driver’s License, But Interested Parties Must Complete Enrollment by the End of August.
The Worker’s Driver’s License is an opportunity for those who need to drive for work and cannot afford the costs of obtaining their first license. The initiative ensures that the entire process — from registration to lessons and exams — is paid for by the government, benefiting thousands of people in the state of Alagoas.
The alert now is for those who have already been approved in the first phase: the enrollment deadline ends this month, and missing this stage means giving up the spot earned. According to information from Detran-AL, the process must be done exclusively online, within the established period.
What is the Worker’s Driver’s License
The program was created to facilitate access to a driver’s license for low-income individuals who need the document for professional activities. All costs — such as medical exams, theoretical and practical lessons, and issuance fees — are fully covered by the Alagoas government.

In this edition, 3,500 spots have been distributed among all municipalities in the state, prioritizing candidates who meet the established social criteria.
Who Can Participate
To benefit from the Worker’s Driver’s License, applicants must:
- Be 18 years or older;
- Reside in Alagoas;
- Be registered in the CadÚnico by 12/31/2024;
- Have completed elementary education.
These requirements ensure that the benefit is directed to those who truly need it, reinforcing the social character of the program.
How to Enroll
Enrollment is only mandatory for those who have been approved in the initial registration phase. To confirm the spot, the candidate must:
- Access the Detran-AL website starting August 13;
- Look for the link “Worker’s Driver’s License”;
- Select the option “Pre-enrollment”;
- Log in and fill in the requested data.
Attention: missing the enrollment deadline results in the permanent loss of the spot and the right to a free license in this edition.
Why the Program is Important
For many families, the cost of the first driver’s license can exceed R$ 2,000, which makes access to job opportunities requiring a driver’s license unfeasible. By removing this barrier, the government increases the chances of insertion into the job market and stimulates regional economic development.
Additionally, having drivers trained within Detran’s standards helps to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by drivers without proper training.
What about you? Do you believe that the Worker’s Driver’s License truly changes the lives of those in need or should it be expanded to other states? Leave your comment and share your opinion.
