Ceará Is Focusing More and More on Renewable Energy Sources, Going Beyond Hydrogen Memorandums. This Time, the State Is Investing in the First Public Solar Plant in the Northeast Region
The Government of Ceará inaugurated a solar plant with a capacity of 400 kWp, located at the Training Center of Ceará Workers (CTTC/IFCE) last Thursday (30). The solar power plant covers an area of 1,800 m² with 895 solar panels, electric inverters, and cables distributed over blocks C, D, and E of the Center. According to the government of Ceará, this solar plant is currently the largest public solar power generation project in the state.

The estimate from Ceará is that the solar plant will provide annual savings of R$ 360,000 in electricity expenses, along with a reduction in utility rates, in a partnership with IFCE, also involving local companies. The solar plant will serve as a basis for training many professionals in the sustainable energy sector.
Nearly R$ 1.3 million was invested in the construction of the plant, funded through an agreement signed between the Government of Ceará and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations. The solar panel project is part of the first phase of a project aimed at implementing a service and learning laboratory and constructing the Ceará Renewable Energy Complex at CTTC, to meet the needs of the Pecém region. In total, R$ 6 million will be allocated for the project.
Ceará Grows in the Solar Energy Market
In October of last year, a new investment in solar energy was announced in the city of Abaiara. A total of R$ 728.6 million will be invested in the construction of a complex with five solar plants.
Its solar panels will have the capacity to produce up to 163 MW. For the construction of the project in Ceará, it is estimated that 2,800 job vacancies will be generated. When fully operational, the solar energy complex will employ 10 direct workers and an additional 30 indirect workers for its maintenance. Of the total invested, the estimated cost to install each park is R$ 145.2 million. Besides generating a significant number of jobs during its construction, the solar complex is linked to strengthening the renewable energy hub in the state.
Renewable Market in Ceará Is One of the Largest in Brazil
Growing gradually in the country, solar energy also has great potential for growth in Ceará, given that the state has one of the highest irradiation rates in Brazil.
According to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the state has 22.9 MW of installed capacity, which accounts for 3.6% of the energy matrix. According to data from the Wind and Solar Atlas of the state, its potential for solar energy production is 30 times greater than the installed capacity in the country.
