PROSUB Delegation Visits NUCLEP to Monitor the Development Project of the Prototype Reactor for Brazil’s First Nuclear Submarine
A delegation from PROSUB (Submarine Development Program of the Navy) visited the facilities of NUCLEP on June 23rd to monitor the manufacturing work of the nuclear reactor prototype being developed at the Navy Technological Center in São Paulo for AMAZUL. The project is called LABGENE (Nuclear Energy Generation Laboratory) and was conceived as a prototype, on land and at full scale, of the propulsion systems that will be installed in the submarine.

The reactor is in the process of manufacturing, assembly, and supplying the vessel (cylinder) and internal containment structures, in addition to the primary shielding tank.
NUCLEP’s LABGENE allows for safe simulation, that is, before its installation in the nuclear-powered submarine, of the reactor operation and the various electronic systems integrated with it.
The delegation was welcomed by the company president, C.Alte. (RM-1) Carlos Henrique Silva Seixas, and the directors Industrial, CMG/EN Affonso Alves, and Commercial, Nicola Mirto Neto.
The PROSUB delegation included: the director of the Navy Technological Center of São Paulo (CTMSP), V.Alte Noriaki Wada, the Nuclear Development Director of the Navy, V.Alte (EN) Guilherme Dionizio Alves, the General Coordinator of the Nuclear Propulsion Submarine Development Program, V.Alte (RM1/ EN) Sydney dos Santos Neves, the Director of the Submarine Development Center, C.Alte Flávio Antoun Netto, the Manager of the Modular Submarine Acquisition Project, C.Alte Celso Mizutani Koga, and the Manager of the Modular Acquisition Project for the Naval Industrial Infrastructure of Itaguaí, C. Alte José Gentile.
After visiting the factory floor of the company, they attended a presentation by NUCLEP’s Industrial Board, detailing the stages and progress for the delivery of Block 40 to AMAZUL (Amazônia Azul Tecnologias de Defesa S.A.).
