iFood Announces US$ 7.5 Million Fund to Accelerate Electric Motorcycle Production in Brazil and Reduce Costs

iFood has initiated an ambitious project to transform urban mobility in Brazil. In partnership with YvY Capital, the company launched an investment fund with an initial contribution of US$ 7.5 million. The goal is to accelerate the production of electric motorcycles in the country, aiming for a manufacturing output of 600,000 units per year by 2035.

The action aims to create a new ecosystem focused on electromobility, with a focus on two-wheeled vehicles. The fund has been named FIP YvY Fábrica de Negócios and is already attracting the attention of corporate and financial investors interested in innovation in the transport and delivery sector.

Fleet Change: Less Gasoline, More Clean Energy

Today, iFood has over 360,000 app delivery workers registered on its platform. A large portion uses combustion motorcycles, which have high maintenance and fuel consumption costs. This reality also contributes to increased carbon emissions in Brazilian cities, where the effects of pollution directly impact public health.

With the large-scale production of electric motorcycles, iFood aims to facilitate access for delivery workers to vehicles powered by clean energy. According to the company, professionals will be able to save on daily expenses and increase income with fewer fixed costs.

The estimate is that this change could reduce up to 14.25 million tons of CO2 per year in the future, should the goal of producing 600,000 units annually be achieved.

Project Goes Beyond Electric Motorcycles: Infrastructure and Battery in the Plan

The FIP YvY Fábrica de Negócios Fund is not only focused on the assembly line. It should encompass the entire chain involved in the production of electric motorcycles in Brazil, including battery manufacturing, development of charging infrastructure, and expansion of the use of clean energy sources.

This structure will be articulated through the so-called E2Ws class of the fund, dedicated exclusively to two-wheeled vehicles. The model seeks to attract companies and specialists with know-how in engineering, technology, and energy solutions aimed at sustainable transport.

With this ecosystem, Brazil can advance in areas such as industrialization and modernization of the urban fleet, reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.

Urban Mobility Gains New Focus with Electric Vehicles

The bet on electric motorcycles is not limited to technology. The proposal directly impacts how large urban centers handle the movement of goods and services. Instead of prioritizing large, polluting vehicles, iFood bets on a leaner mobility, adapted to dense traffic and the demands for efficiency in quick deliveries.

Urban mobility based on two-wheeled vehicles powered by electricity can help reorganize the use of roads and reduce pressure on traffic. Additionally, this type of transportation is quieter, contributing to the reduction of noise pollution in large cities.

iFood’s Project Forecasts Total Investment of Up to US$ 1 Billion

The initial investment of US$ 7.5 million is just the first step. Internal projections indicate that the total investment may reach US$ 1 billion in the coming years. This amount will be allocated among manufacturing stages, research, and structuring of the electric sector within the mobility universe.

Over time, the initiative hopes to create a sustainable business model, with effects on the quality of life of workers as well. One of the goals is to increase the average income of delivery workers by up to 40%, with reduced operating costs. This could contribute to advancements in other social areas, such as access to housing and education.

Benefits for App Delivery Workers

In addition to facilitating access to technology, the fund may offer financing models for the acquisition of electric motorcycles, making payment in affordable installments easier. Eliminating fuel costs, combined with reduced vehicle maintenance, creates a larger profit margin for those who rely on delivery as their main source of income.

For many self-employed professionals, using electric motorcycles can be a competitive advantage, providing more efficiency on routes and less downtime due to mechanical failures.

Production in Brazil Can Boost National Industry

An important point of iFood’s plan is prioritizing production in Brazil. This can generate jobs in various areas of the economy, from parts factories to energy suppliers. With the increasing demand for electric vehicles, the country can position itself as a leader in the sustainable light transport sector.

Local production also reduces import costs and favors the development of proprietary technologies adapted to Brazilian realities, such as resistance to uneven terrain, tropical climate, and long urban distances.

The iFood movement follows a global trend of transitioning to clean fleets and less polluting solutions in urban transport. Cities around the world are imposing limits on vehicles powered by fossil fuels and encouraging sustainable alternatives.

In Brazil, the initiative arrives at a time when there is more intense discussion about the future of deliveries, land use, and pathways to a green economy. The entry of large companies into this debate indicates that the topic is gaining more space in strategic decisions within the private sector.
