In Addition to the Completed Units, There Are 43,032 MW of Installed Capacity Under Construction.

The Largest Solar Power Plant in Latin America is being built in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, Piauí, with about 2.2 million solar panels from the company Enel Green Power. According to electrical engineer Brenda Rocha, from the State Department of Mining, Oil and Renewable Energies of Piauí, the installed capacity currently in operation is 747.34 MW. The installed capacity under construction, according to Rocha, is 43,032 MW.

Piauí Will Have the Largest Renewable Energy Park in Latin America

In the units that have already been completed, there are at least 2,200 workers involved, and an additional 750 workers are engaged in the units that are still under construction. When completed, Piauí’s solar power plant will have a production capacity of about 2.3 TWh per year, avoiding the emission of over 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.

In addition to the solar power plant under construction, Piauí also has the largest wind power park in South America, managed by Enel Green Power, in the cities of Lagoa do Barro and Dom Inocêncio.

According to the report from the State Department of Mining, Oil and Renewable Energies – SEMINPER, the park has 230 wind turbines, with an installed capacity of 649.45 MW and about 2,360 workers.

Without a doubt, it is the largest wind farm managed by Enel Green Power, with expansion capacity, potentially generating over 3.3 TWh per year, avoiding more than 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the atmosphere.

Data from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), dated November 7, 2022, reveal that the installed capacity of hydropower in the state of Piauí is 237.3 MW in operation. In biomass, Piauí has an installed capacity of 23.5 MW in operation.

Piauí Is One of the Most Entrepreneurial States in Brazil When It Comes to Renewable Sources

Piauí has an installed capacity of 3,378.75 MW in operation, 675.5 MW under construction, and 567.8 MW to be built in the future, in the wind energy sector.

In solar photovoltaic energy generation – produced by solar panels from companies and parks – Piauí has an installed capacity of 1,249.92 MW in operation, 870.32 MW under construction, and 6,793.34 MW to be constructed in the future.

Lastly, in distributed generation, Piauí has 272.73 MW in operation, totaling 24,960 micro and mini plants across 219 municipalities in Piauí.

State’s Position in the National Ranking of Entrepreneurs in the Energy Sector

Currently, Piauí ranks 3rd in the wind energy ranking based on its number of operational enterprises, trailing only behind Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia.

According to SEMINPER data, Piauí is also the 3rd state in the ranking based on the number of operational enterprises, under construction, and those yet to be initiated.

In photovoltaic energy generation, Piauí ranks 3rd in the national ranking for operational enterprises, falling behind Bahia and Minas Gerais.
