In Addition to the Completed Units, There Are 43,032 MW of Installed Capacity Under Construction.
The Largest Solar Power Plant in Latin America is being built in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, Piauí, with about 2.2 million solar panels from the company Enel Green Power. According to electrical engineer Brenda Rocha, from the State Department of Mining, Oil and Renewable Energies of Piauí, the installed capacity currently in operation is 747.34 MW. The installed capacity under construction, according to Rocha, is 43,032 MW.
Piauí Will Have the Largest Renewable Energy Park in Latin America
In the units that have already been completed, there are at least 2,200 workers involved, and an additional 750 workers are engaged in the units that are still under construction. When completed, Piauí’s solar power plant will have a production capacity of about 2.3 TWh per year, avoiding the emission of over 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
In addition to the solar power plant under construction, Piauí also has the largest wind power park in South America, managed by Enel Green Power, in the cities of Lagoa do Barro and Dom Inocêncio.
