The Saudi Company Resumes Construction of the Jeddah Tower After Signing a US$ 2 Billion Deal. The Tower is Expected to Reach 1,000 Meters, Becoming the Tallest in the World!

The construction of the Jeddah Tower, known as the Jeddah Tower, is officially back on track. Located in the city of Jeddah on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, the tower is scheduled to become the tallest skyscraper in the world, soaring to an impressive height of 1,000 meters when completed.

This ambitious project, part of a larger plan called Jeddah Economic City, is funded by billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, through his company Kingdom Holding, based in Riyadh.

The construction of the Jeddah Tower had been halted for years due to financial constraints, but it is now being resumed with full force.

With an investment of 7.2 billion Saudi riyals (about US$ 1.9 billion), Jeddah Economic Co., a subsidiary of Kingdom Holding, has signed a deal with the Saudi Binladin Group to restart construction. The expectation is that the tower will be completed in 42 months.

An Architectural and Technical Challenge

Designed by renowned American architect Adrian Smith, the tower mimics the contours of a blooming desert plant, a symbolic choice for the Middle Eastern landscape.

The structure will be built on three distinct bases, each terminating at varying heights to balance the weight and stabilize the building against strong winds, which are common in tall buildings.

Currently, 63 of the 157 planned floors have already been constructed. In addition to residences and offices, the tower will include a Four Seasons hotel, offering a luxury experience to guests.

The three lobbies at the top will provide spectacular views of the city, and the observation deck on the 157th floor will be the highest in the world, a tourist attraction in its own right.

The Tower and the Planned City

The Jeddah Tower is the centerpiece of Jeddah Economic City, a new planned urban area that aims to promote economic and technological development in the region. This planned city will include not only offices and residences but also retail projects, hospitality, and sustainable infrastructure.

The first phase of the project has already been implemented, covering an area of 1.3 million square meters with electricity, water, sewage, drainage, and high-speed internet connectivity.

The project is part of a larger initiative in Saudi Arabia, known as “Vision 2030,” which aims to diversify the country’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil.

Through this tower and the new city, the country intends to attract international investments and establish itself as a center for innovation and global tourism.

When completed, the Jeddah Tower will surpass the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which currently holds the title of the tallest building in the world at 828 meters.

Since its inauguration in 2010, the Burj Khalifa has been the icon of world architecture, but the Jeddah Tower is set to break that record and redefine what it means to build on a grand scale.

The tower will also join a very exclusive list of mega-skyscrapers, consisting of buildings that are over 600 meters tall. Currently, there are only four skyscrapers in this category: the Burj Khalifa itself, Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, the Shanghai Tower, and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, also in Saudi Arabia.

Symbol of Prestige and Modernization

The construction of the Jeddah Tower is more than an architectural project. It reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambition to stand out on the global stage, not only in terms of infrastructure but as a center for economic development and innovation.

The Saudi government, under the leadership of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to stimulate the growth of new sectors such as technology and financial services, as well as attract more tourists to the country.

The tower will become an icon of Saudi prestige and ongoing modernization, helping to position Saudi Arabia as a prominent player in the global economy. Vision 2030, of which the tower is a part, represents a continuous effort to transform the country’s image, aiming to be known for its innovation and progress, alongside its vast cultural and religious heritage.

The future of the Jeddah Tower and Jeddah Economic City is closely tied to Saudi Arabia’s broader development plan.

The project will not only elevate the Jeddah skyline but also play an important role in the economic growth of the country, attracting investments, businesses, and visitors from around the world.

With its completion expected in the coming years, the Jeddah Tower promises to be a landmark not just in architecture, but in the global geopolitical and economic landscape.
