New Peugeot 2008, Manufactured in Argentina, Only Got One Star in Latin NCAP, with Criticism of Structural Safety
The new Peugeot 2008, manufactured in Argentina and launched in Brazil in 2024, was evaluated by the New Car Assessment Program for Latin America and the Caribbean (Latin NCAP). The compact SUV was negatively surprising by receiving only one star in the safety test, nearly the lowest possible score on the evaluation scale.
Performance in Protection Tests
The score reflects the limited performance of the model in the different analyzed criteria. The Peugeot 2008 has four airbags. In the test, it achieved 42% protection for adult occupants, 59% for children, 54% in pedestrian protection, and 56% in safety assist.
According to the Latin NCAP report, the protection for the driver and front passenger’s head and neck was considered good. However, the driver’s chest protection was rated as weak.

Goodbye falls: Singaporean company Omoway begins production of a motorcycle that doesn’t fall and surprises the market by offering automatic balance technology that reduces accidents and transforms the urban riding experience.
The driver’s knees received an adequate rating, but the front passenger’s left knee had marginal protection due to the risk of impact with dangerous structures located behind the dashboard.
Structural Problems Identified
Another noteworthy point was the evaluation of the passenger compartment structure. Latin NCAP pointed out that it appeared unstable and unable to withstand greater loads in case of more severe accidents.
In the side impact test, however, the results were better: there was good protection for the head, abdomen, chest, and pelvis.
Safety Equipment Influences the Score
The absence of certain standard equipment also weighed on the evaluation. The Peugeot 2008 offers the automatic emergency braking system (AEB), but only as an optional item.
Since it is not standard equipment, the model does not meet the minimum protection requirements set by Latin NCAP.
This was not the first time the Peugeot 2008 underwent Latin NCAP tests. The previous generation, tested in 2021, had received two stars. With the new generation, performance dropped even further, landing at only one star.
Technical Features and Prices of the Peugeot 2008
The new Peugeot 2008 has undergone significant changes. Now produced in El Palomar, Argentina, the SUV has abandoned the old 1.6 aspirated and turbo engines, being equipped with a 1.0 three-cylinder turbo engine capable of generating 130 hp of power and 20.4 kgfm of torque. The transmission is a CVT automatic with a simulation of seven gears.
In terms of size, the model has grown. It measures 4.30 meters in length, 1.82 meters in width, 1.55 meters in height, and 2.60 meters in wheelbase. The trunk holds 434 liters.
Prices range from R$ 130,990 to R$ 160,990, depending on the chosen version.
