FlatFish Is The First Autonomous Underwater Vehicle From Brazil And Is Already Operating In The Middle East And In The Campos Basin
Meet The Submarine Robot That Was Born In Salvador And Now Operates In Oil And Gas Operations In Different Parts Of The World. Called FlatFish, The Equipment Is An AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Created By Senai CIMATEC In Partnership With Shell Brazil And The German Institute DFKI.
The Project Started In 2014 And Today Is One Of The Main Examples Of National Technology With Global Application. The Robot Performs Deep Underwater Inspections, Collects Data, And Generates High-Definition 3D Images, Contributing To The Safety Of Offshore Operations And The Prevention Of Accidents On The Seafloor.
Bahian Technology In Deep Waters

With A Diving Capacity Of Up To 3,000 Meters And Autonomy To Operate Without Cables Or Support Vessels, The FlatFish Is A Cutting-Edge Innovation. Meet The Submarine Robot That Can Move In All Directions And Recharge Itself In A Kind Of “Submersible Garage”.

Brazilian giant expands borders in the Southeast: Petrobras confirms new oil discovery in ultra-deep waters in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin.
In 2018, The Technology Was Licensed To The Company Saipem, Which Now Conducts The Industrialization Process. The Equipment Has Already Been Successfully Tested In Italy And The Campos Basin, And Is Currently Being Used In The Middle East. A Second Model Is In The Final Testing Phase To Serve The Brazilian Market.
Robotics And Innovation With Bahian Seal
The Development Of The FlatFish Was Financed By R&D Clauses From ANP And Received Support From Embrapii. Part Of The Team Was Trained In Germany, While The Tests Took Place In The Waters Of The Baía De Todos-os-Santos. According To Leonardo Nardy, Executive Manager Of Senai CIMATEC, The Project Also Boosted The Creation Of CIMATEC Mar And The Robotics And Autonomous Systems Competence Center.
In Addition To Serving The Oil And Gas Sector, The Same Technology Can Be Adapted For Environmental, Industrial Inspections, And Even In Other Types Of Submerged Infrastructure.
International Recognition And Local Impact

In An Interview, Rosane Zagatti, Technology Manager At Shell Brazil, Stated That The FlatFish Stood Out In International Awards. She Emphasized The Gains In Operational Efficiency, Safety, And Emission Reductions. In Addition, The Initiative Empowered Brazilian Professionals And Strengthened The Ecosystem Of Innovation In The Country.
The Technology Also Helps To Tell A New Story About Bahia. The New Season Of The Show “Onde Tem Bahia” From TV Bahia Is Showcasing How Innovations Like The FlatFish Generate Value Inside And Outside Brazil, Including Expanding Businesses In Europe, South America, And North America.
