Additionally, Monteiro also coordinated the entire process that led the US consortium to participate and win the auction this Tuesday. The natural gas plant, to be supplied by Shell, at the Port of Pecém, will have investments of R$ 4.225 billion and is expected to enter operation in three and a half years, according to Paulo Monteiro. The new natural gas plant will have an installed capacity of 1.5 GW, and all the gas consumed will come from Shell.
Portocém Will Also Operate an Exclusive Pier at the Port
Monteiro stated he is very happy because this is another major investment coming to the state in the energy generation market. The investment amount will certainly contribute to the socio-economic evolution of Ceará.
He also informed that the US consortium will operate an exclusive pier at the Port of Pecém; however, there can be no further details on this, as it will depend on negotiations to be made with the management of the Company for the Development of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex, which manages the ZPe of Ceará and the Port of Pecém.
Maia Júnior, Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of the Government of Ceará, stated that with the arrival of Portocém and its 1.5 GW thermoelectric plant, the state is in a process of energy transition, from fossil energy to clean energy. The electricity generated by natural gas will also be important and useful, in addition to ensuring the availability of the source in Ceará.
Ceará Government Signs 14th Memorandum
Last week, the state government signed the 14th memorandum to carry out investments in green hydrogen projects at the Pecém complex. The estimate is to generate 1 GW of clean energy that can supply 1.5 million homes.
The investment agreement was with the company AES Brasil and foresees the evolution of a project for the green hydrogen production chain, including the intention to participate in an ammonia storage pool.
According to Ceará Governor Camilo Santana, there is no doubt that changing the energy matrix is an essential step for the future of the environment and the country’s energy future.
The government is working hard to ensure that the necessary conditions are guaranteed for Ceará to become a major hub for clean energy and green hydrogen production for Brazil and the world.
The investment agreement between the state and AES Brasil provides for the development of a green hydrogen production chain project, including the intention to participate in an ammonia storage pool and utilities to be created and implemented in the future hub.
