Port of Paranaguá announces five-year partnership with Copel to supply energy for five years

Copel closed a contract to sell energy to the Port of Paranaguá for the next five years, through its trading company created to operate in the free contracting environment. The supply provides service to the five units of the Port, starting in May of this year and providing between R$ 10 million to R$ 13 million in savings in the contracted period, which will depend on the current tariff flag.

In the migration to the ACL, the Port of Paranaguá chose the retail trader modality, whereby Copel becomes responsible for the intermediation and obligations with the CCEE – Electric Energy Trading Chamber. This simplifies and reduces costs with the association of the port to the CCEE.

Largest grain port in the country and the third when including all types of cargo, the Port of Paranaguá will be one more state-owned company from Paraná to migrate to the free market. In 2020, the Paraná Institute of Technology, the To tap, had also signed a contract with Copel, as well as the State Legislative Assembly.

Created in 2016, the trader is the fourth largest in the country in volume of energy sold in this modality. Now, it is preparing to serve energy consumers from all segments, currently promoting a process of digitalization of its processes to support this objective. The expectation is that by the end of 2021 the company will be 100% digital, facilitating the provision of services to end consumers.

“We are expanding commercialization in the retail modality because we believe in this trend of simplifying the process for consumers who aim for the free market economy, without the bureaucracy of the Electricity Trading Chamber”, adds the general director of Copel Mercado Livre, Franklin Miguel.
