The railway company Rumo signed a full service contract with the leader in the digital transformation of track maintenance and infrastructure management, Loram, this past Wednesday (22/06), to provide services in the rail sector. In this way, the logistics company will be responsible for the operation and maintenance services of the railway network that league the states of Mato Grosso and São Paulo and is currently managed by the company Rumo.
Loram signs a full service contract with Rumo to provide operation and maintenance services on the railway network that connects MT and SP
The first full-service contract, inspired by the model commonly adopted in the United States and Europe, in the Brazilian railway sector was signed this week between companies Rumo and transport logistics company Loram. This is one more step taken by the railway company to attract new business in the sector and in search of quality services to ensure good maintenance of the Brazilian railway network.
Thus, the full service contract is initially valid for 15 years, during which Loram will offer its services for the operation and maintenance of a 120-wheel model grinder that will serve the 2.183-kilometer stretch of railway between Rondonópolis (MT) and the Port of Santos (SP).

The completion of the delivery of the equipment for the start of the company's services in the rail sector is scheduled for the year 2023 and, with that, Rumo expects to reduce operating costs by more than 50% in the rail network that connects the states of Mato Grosso and São Paulo.
In addition, Rumo's director of supplies, Felipe Bertoncello, commented on the contract in the full service model and highlighted that one of the main current problems in the national railway sector is the high maintenance costs of the networks.
In this way, the partnership with Loram will allow this responsibility to be in the hands of the service provider and, as a result, the operating and maintenance costs of the equipment will be significantly reduced. He also pointed out that the equipment becomes idle when there is no demand and that the contract will prevent this from happening on the network in question.
First full service contract in the Brazilian railway sector, signed between the companies, represents a change in the provision of services in the segment
The maintenance and operation of railway networks are highly complex services and, with the first full service contract signed in the country, there may be a more modern look at the possibilities in the segment.
In addition, Rumo highlighted that the chosen equipment has nine wagons (front control car, rear control car, power, two water wagons and four grinding cars) and approximately 200 meters in length, to ensure more efficient service delivery.
Murilo Martins, general director of Loram do Brasil, commented on the signed contract and highlighted the company's objectives in the partnership, stating that "Our business is, in essence, to increase maintenance capacity and productivity with the least possible impact on circulation, through innovation, digitalization and high-performance equipment, delivering the final service that the railroad needs to receive in a personalized way”.
Finally, Rumo expects that, in addition to the North and Paulista networks, which comprise the stretch between Rondonópolis (MT) and the Port of Santos (SP), the full service contract model may also, in the future, be contracted for the provision of of services in the Central Network and future extensions.
