Direct flights to Europe will be operated by TAP Air Portugal with Airbus A330-200 aircraft three times a week leaving from Afonso Pena Airport to Lisbon, which functions as an air hub connecting passengers to dozens of European cities, and tickets are already on sale from July to December.
Curitiba will have direct flights to Europe starting on July 2. TAP Air Portugal will operate the new route between Afonso Pena International Airport and Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, with Airbus A330-200 aircraft and a frequency of three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. This is the first time in history that Paraná will have a continuous air link with Europe, and the new route promises to reduce the total travel time for passengers by about three hours, who previously needed to connect in São Paulo.
Tickets are already available for purchase, with boarding options from July to December 2026. For residents of Paraná and the South region traveling to Europe, this change is significant: instead of going to Guarulhos, facing a connection, and only then boarding to Lisbon, the flight departs directly from Curitiba. The time savings and the comfort of eliminating a layover make the route a milestone for aviation in the state, and Lisbon, as an air hub, connects passengers to dozens of other European destinations.
What changes for those traveling from Curitiba to Europe
According to information from the portal ndmais, until now, any resident of Paraná who wanted to fly to Europe had to first go to São Paulo, usually to Guarulhos Airport, to then board an international flight.

This connection added at least three hours to the total travel time, not counting waits at airports, risks of missed connections, and the fatigue of two consecutive flights. The direct flight from Curitiba to Lisbon eliminates all of that.
The frequency of three times a week is sufficient to cater to both business travelers and tourists.
Lisbon serves as one of the main air hubs in Europe, with direct connections to cities like Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, which means that passengers departing from Curitiba can be in virtually any European capital with just one layover, made in European territory and no longer in São Paulo. For Europe, Curitiba ceases to be an isolated point on the map of international aviation.
Why TAP chose Curitiba for direct flights to Europe
The decision by TAP Air Portugal to open a direct route to Curitiba is not random. Paraná is experiencing a moment of growth in international tourism that justifies the investment.
In the first two months of 2026, the state received 303,928 foreign tourists, equivalent to 11% of all international arrivals in Brazil during that period.
In February alone, more than 121,000 international visitors were in Paraná, the second-best result for the month since 2018.
With these numbers, Paraná positioned itself as the fifth main entry point for foreigners into Brazil, behind only Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Santa Catarina.
For TAP, operating direct flights between Curitiba and Europe means accessing a passenger market that already exists, both Brazilians traveling to Portugal and other European destinations, as well as Europeans visiting Paraná without the direct competition they would find in Guarulhos or Galeão. The route fills a gap that the market has demanded for years.
The impact of direct flights to Europe on tourism and the economy of Paraná
Direct international flights are not just a convenience for passengers; they are economic infrastructure. Each new route to Europe generates additional demand in hotels, restaurants, transportation, commerce, and tourist services in Curitiba and the metropolitan region.
European tourists who previously considered Paraná a secondary destination accessible only via connection can now fly directly, reducing barriers and increasing the likelihood of choosing the state as their primary destination.
The opposite effect is also relevant. Paraná entrepreneurs doing business in Europe gain faster and direct access to the continent, which can stimulate foreign trade, international partnerships, and investments.
The direct link with Lisbon also strengthens cultural ties between Paraná and Portugal; states in the South of Brazil have significant communities of Portuguese descendants, and the route meets an emotional demand that goes beyond conventional tourism.
What passengers need to know about flights from Curitiba to Europe
The flights will be operated with Airbus A330-200, a widebody aircraft with a capacity for about 270 passengers in the typical TAP configuration, distributed between business and economy classes.
The estimated duration of the direct flight from Curitiba to Lisbon is approximately 10 hours, depending on wind conditions, a time equivalent to the flight from Guarulhos to Europe, but without the need for a prior connection.
Tickets are already on sale for the period from July to December 2026, and the trend is that prices will vary according to the advance of the purchase and the season. For those planning to travel to Europe in the second half of the year, buying in advance can ensure more competitive prices, especially in July and August, which are peak European season months.
Afonso Pena Airport, in São José dos Pinhais, already operates international flights and has the infrastructure to accommodate the additional demand that the route is expected to generate.
