What The Student Learns About Medicinal Plants
The program covers from fundamentals to clinical applications and safety.

It then presents the cycle of drug development, with preclinical and clinical research, and introduces methods for evaluating evidence quality, study synthesis, and decision-making in evidence-based clinical practice.
The itinerary also covers the history and traditional use of phytotherapy, contextualizing popular and ethnobotanical use.
Finally, it concludes with content on toxic plants and adverse reactions to phytotherapeutics, indicating warning signs and safe practices.
Although the theme of “medicinal teas” does not appear as an isolated unit, good practices of preparation and use are treated transversely throughout the modules.
Who Can Participate And How Certification Works
The course is primarily aimed at health professionals working in the SUS, in line with national policies on the subject.
However, recent editions have allowed participants from other fields interested in the subject, as long as any academic prerequisites defined for each offering are met.
Evaluation is conducted online within the virtual learning environment.
Upon completing the activities with a minimum pass rate of 60%, the student can issue the digital certificate directly on the platform at no additional cost.
This certification rule appears on the institutional pages of previous offerings and remains a practice of the course.
Why Fiocruz Offers The Update On Phytotherapy
The training integrates actions from the National Policy and Program on Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapeutics (PNPMF) and the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC).
