With Investment Exceeding R$ 25 Million, Joinville Begins Construction of Curved Bridge Using Cantitravel Technology to Cross the Itaum River, Prioritizing Environmental Preservation and Improvements in Urban Mobility.

The city of Joinville, in Santa Catarina, will have a new bridge costing R$ 25.9 million built with cantitravel technology, designed to cross the Itaum River and preserve the native vegetation at the site.

The authorization for the work was officially published by the Secretariat of Heritage of the Union (SPU) in July 2025, releasing an area of 3,300 square meters on Esteves Júnior Street, in the Guanabara neighborhood, for the start of the interventions.

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months and is part of a series of urban mobility improvements planned for the largest city in Santa Catarina.

Project Details for the R$ 25.9 Million Curved Bridge

According to the Joinville City Hall, the bridge will connect Anêmonas Street, in the Fátima neighborhood, to Esteves Júnior Street, in Guanabara.

The project includes a structure with 182.5 meters in length, with a curved layout, crossing the Itaum River and an environmental preservation area.

The total investment adds to another R$ 9 million estimated for access works and road adjustments that will be bid in a later stage.

The interventions aim to improve traffic flow in the region, which experiences heavy vehicle movement daily.

Cantitravel Technology to Reduce Environmental Impact

According to information from the municipal administration, the cantitravel technology chosen for the execution of the work uses cranes on tracks, known as mobile gantries, which allow for the installation of piles and the main structures of the bridge with less environmental impact.

The method, previously used in the construction of the Joinville Bridge, which connects the neighborhoods of Adhemar Garcia and Boa Vista, was selected to minimize the suppression of native vegetation and ensure the protection of the ecosystem around the river.

In addition to its technical efficiency, the cantitravel system reduces execution time and eliminates the need for large support areas, a crucial factor in locations with environmental restrictions.

As explained by the Secretary of Urban Infrastructure of Joinville, “the choice of this technology is strategic for preserving local flora and meeting environmental requirements imposed by regulatory agencies.”

According to the city hall, the entire project is subject to supervision and monitoring by the Santa Catarina Environment Institute (IMA) and the local Environmental Secretariat.

Urban Perspectives and Access to the New Bridge

The detailed executive project indicates that, after the bridge is completed, a road binarization may be implemented, an urban solution that transforms parallel roads into one-way routes, promoting faster travel and safety for drivers and pedestrians.

However, the decision regarding the binarization will depend on traffic studies that will be conducted after the completion of the main work.

The release of the area for construction occurred through a free use concession, formalized by the Secretariat of Heritage of the Union.

The authorization document was officially published this week and guarantees the City Hall of Joinville the right to use the federal land for public interest purposes, as highlighted by the SPU itself in a statement.

Public Expectation and Benefits for Joinville

Currently, the phase is to release for the start of civil works, with equipment and team mobilization expected in the coming weeks.

The notice to proceed has already been issued in early July 2025, establishing a timeline of 18 months for the delivery of the curved bridge over the Itaum River.

The announcement for hiring access works will still be launched, according to the schedule released by the municipal administration.

For the residents of Joinville, the construction of the new bridge represents the expectation of reducing traffic jams, especially during peak hours, in addition to facilitating movement between the Fátima and Guanabara neighborhoods.

According to the Residents’ Association of the Fátima neighborhood, “the link between Anêmonas and Esteves Júnior streets has long been a community request, seeking alternatives to improve mobility in the south zone of the city.”

The total investment amount, which exceeds R$ 34 million when considering all accesses and planned improvements, reinforces the municipal administration’s commitment to urban infrastructure.

Joinville, recognized as the most populous municipality in Santa Catarina, has more than 618,000 inhabitants in 2025, according to recent data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Demographic growth has intensified the need for infrastructural works to meet the growing demand for efficient and safe transportation.
