The company responsible for this launch, Ashok Leyland, has a history that dates back nearly 75 years. Founded shortly after India’s independence, the company built its reputation on the manufacture of buses and heavy trucks, with one in three buses in the country belonging to the brand.
Between 2023 and 2024, the company sold over 170,000 commercial vehicles. Now, the strategy has changed: the brand decided to enter the light vehicle market with the cheapest pickup in the world.
Unlike other manufacturers that prioritize high-cost electric models, the manufacturer focused on the real needs of the market. The goal was to create a durable diesel utility that is easy to maintain, ideal for areas where electrification is still not viable.

The heart of the cheapest pickup in the world is a 3-cylinder, 1.5-liter diesel engine developed to deliver around 80 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.

With a ground clearance of 170 mm and wide tires, the vehicle overcomes potholes and uneven terrain without the risk of getting stuck.

The cheapest pickup in the world arrives to dethrone market leaders with aggressive numbers.
While the Tata Ace costs approximately 780,000 rupees and the Mahindra Jeeto about 770,000 rupees, the Sati is offered for 660,000 rupees (around US$ 7,350).
The model provides more power, greater load capacity, and better fuel consumption for a lower initial investment.
Available in versions for light deliveries and for heavy loads, the vehicle already has waiting lists in some areas.
