The Event Was Concluded Last Night with the Presence of the Governor of Amapá; The 2021 Edition Is Scheduled for Manaus, Amazonas

The Brazil Export Forum, the largest hub for discussions on logistics and port infrastructure in the country, concluded its first regional forum, the North Export, on the night of this Tuesday (29). Over two days, the event gathered key political, business, and authority leaders to discuss the most important regional topics related to logistics and port infrastructure, which directly impact the national landscape.

“The event exceeded our expectations,” said the CEO of Brazil Export Forum, Fabrício Julião. “Here we planted a seed that will bring many fruits,” added the executive. Julião also announced that the 2021 edition is confirmed and will take place in Manaus, in the Amazon.

Other Topics on Brazilian Microeconomics

Created 19 years ago, the Brazil Export Forum is a permanent space for debates on the sector, bringing together key players in the port logistics chain, infrastructure, agribusiness, and multimodalism. This was the first time Brazil Export held a regional event. The North Export is the first of a series of five meetings across Brazil’s regions, in addition to the National event in Brasília, scheduled for the end of November. It occurred after 100 live streams conducted during the pandemic, which also brought together the main authorities of the sector.

The Sebrae of Macapá served as the physical venue for the North Export. The event was held in a hybrid format, with a limited in-person attendance of invited guests and authorities, along with free online broadcast of the content. This format shortened distances and allowed some speakers to participate remotely.

The next regional event of Brazil Export will take place on October 5 and 6, next Monday and Tuesday. The South Export will also be held in a hybrid format, but this time in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. Registrations are already open and free, granting access to watch the event online. Physically present at the closing ceremony, the governor of Amapá, Waldez Góes, expressed his gratitude multiple times for the choice of Macapá to host the meeting and described the North Export as a unique opportunity. “Amapá and the Amazon states feel honored by the respect and vision,” he stated. “Rest assured that you are building a solid partnership,” added the governor of Amapá.

The governor noted that all the states in the region have their differences, but there are “many more points of convergence.” He also assured the commitment to a responsible agenda to advance the individual experiences of the states without overlooking the importance of acting in the logistics area in an integrated manner.

Letter from North Export

It was up to Ricardo Falcão, president of Conapra (National Council of Piloting) and of the North Export Council, to read the final document of the event. Among other points, it states that North Export commits to demand from the federal government “the formulation, development, and implementation of state public policies and not of government, aimed at enhancing logistics and preserving water and the environment.” The document also mentions that one of the focuses of the regional forums is to “organize the logistics and infrastructure players to issue a unified voice in order to develop and better distribute wealth in Brazil.”

The North Export Letter recalled a statement from the vice-governor of Amapá, Jaime Domingues, who referred to North Export as an initiative conducive to business opportunities in Amapá and its neighboring states.

The closing ceremony took place after four panels conducted since the early morning and the General Assembly of the Interstate Consortium of the Legal Amazon, which occurred as part of the North Export agenda and brought together governors of the regional bloc.

How the Event Was

The assembly included the participation of the CEO of Brazil Export Forum, Fabrício Julião, as well as the president of BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), Gustavo Henrique Moreira Montezano, who spoke about the projects for the region and emphasized that the recovery of the green economy is a trend not only in Brazil but globally. Montezano also stated that one of the region’s great potentials is forest concession, a fundamental yet underexplored asset that can boost the development of the entire tourism-impacted chain.

The executive congratulated Julião on the North Export and, in his closing message, encouraged everyone to count on BNDES for joint work aimed at developing the region sustainably.

The panels brought together regional and national councilors from Brazil Export; specialists from key sector entities, including Abol (Brazilian Association of Logistics Operators) and ABTP (Brazilian Association of Port Terminals); from companies like Grão Pará Port Terminal and Amaggi Group; and also from public entities, including ANP (National Petroleum Agency) and ANTAQ (National Agency of Waterway Transportation), with the aim of discussing highly relevant topics for the region.

Among the points addressed by all these professionals were the potential for crop outflow from the Midwest through the Northern Arc; waterways; needs and demands of the terminals in the North region; and the economic shift of the region through the development of the oil and gas industry.

First Day

The first day of the event, last Monday (28), was reserved for a technical visit and the opening of North Export. In the early morning, a delegation composed of Forum councilors and authorities was welcomed by the president-director of the Port Authority of Santana, Glauco Cei. After a lecture, they took a brief tour of the port.

In the afternoon, following the presentations of sponsors and speeches by the president of the Brazil Export Council, José Roberto Campos, and the Brazil Hack Export’s Angelino Caputo, the “Hack Export Moment” took place, featuring Joel Julius, business development manager at Enterprise Singapore. Then, the three winners of the regional stage of Brazil Hack Export were announced, securing their spot in the final in November. The top prize went to the Estarium team, which received R$ 1,500.

The opening ceremony included the participation of authorities, among them the vice-governor of Amapá, Jaime Nunes. After remarks from the president of North Export, Ricardo Falcão, and the CEO of the Export Forum, Fabrício Julião, the lecture by Marcelo Sampaio, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, was held.
