Campinas Determined The Closure Of Parks After Heavy Rains Exceeded The Limit Set By Municipal Decree.

The closure of parks in Campinas was determined by the City Hall on Friday (2) after the municipality recorded 86.6 millimeters of rain in just 72 hours, an index above the limit established by municipal decree Campinas.

The measure, which affects public areas with high traffic, was taken to reduce risks to the population, mainly due to falling trees in Campinas, and will be re-evaluated within 24 hours.

According to the municipal administration, the decision follows technical criteria set forth in decree 24,175, published on November 27, 2025.

The document defines that parks and woods must be closed whenever the accumulated rainfall exceeds 80 millimeters within a three-day period, as occurred this weekend.

Taquaral Park Closed And Other Areas Restricted In The Eastern Region

Among the locations affected by the closure of parks in Campinas is the Taquaral Park, one of the city’s main leisure spots.

In addition, visitation has also been suspended at the Jequitibás Woods and the Jardim Madalena Woods, all located in the eastern region of the municipality.

According to the City Hall, the preventive interdiction aims to avoid accidents caused by saturated soil, which compromises the stability of large trees.

Thus, the closed Taquaral Park is part of a set of emergency actions aimed at ensuring the population’s safety during periods of heavy rains in Campinas.

Heavy Rains In Campinas Exceed Limit Set By Municipal Decree

In the last 24 hours, the recorded rainfall index was 36.3 millimeters, contributing to the elevated total over a period of 72 hours.

Official data indicate significant variations between the regions of the city.

In the Northern region, the volume was 33.8 mm in the last 24 hours and 63.2 mm in 72 hours. The Southern region recorded 47 mm in 24 hours and 54.2 mm over three days.

Meanwhile, the Northwest reported 20.4 mm (24h) and 28.4 mm (72h), and the Southwest recorded 16.2 mm (24h) and 19.7 mm (72h).

Even with regional differences, the overall index for the municipality exceeded the level set by the municipal decree Campinas, justifying the immediate closure of parks and woods.

Tree Falls In Campinas Emphasize Need For Preventive Measure

In addition to the significant volume of rain, another decisive factor for the closure of parks in Campinas was the increase in incidents related to urban vegetation.

Between Thursday (1st) and the morning of this Friday (2), the Civil Defense registered 12 tree falls in Campinas.

The incidents mobilized security and maintenance teams, who went to the locations to remove the trees and clear the affected roads.

The City Hall reported that all actions were conducted preventively, prioritizing areas with higher pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Spot Flooding Did Not Require Evacuation Of Residents

During the same period, municipal teams recorded flooding in two properties in the Campinas area.

Despite this, according to the authorities, the municipal teams quickly controlled the situation and did not need to remove the residents.

Nevertheless, the municipality maintains constant monitoring of weather conditions, especially while heavy rains persist in Campinas.

The guidance is for the population to avoid wooded areas during episodes of climatic instability.

Reassessment Of Park Closures In Campinas Occurs In 24 Hours

The City Hall reported that the closure of parks in Campinas will be reassessed within 24 hours, based on new rainfall data and technical inspections conducted by municipal teams.

If rainfall levels decrease and safety conditions improve, the City Hall will gradually reopen the spaces.

In the meantime, the municipal administration reinforces that the decision follows legal and technical criteria, prioritizing the preservation of life.

The closed Taquaral Park, like the other restricted areas, will only be reopened when full safety guarantees for visitors and workers are ensured.
