If You Want to Get Your Driver’s License for Free, Detran Opened 7 Thousand Spots for the CNH Social Program 2025. Registration Begins on April 1st, and Beneficiaries Can Choose Between First License, Addition, or Category Change. Selection Will Be Fully Online, at No Cost to Candidates.
The chance to get a driver’s license for free is knocking on the door of thousands of Brazilians. Detran will offer 7 thousand free spots through the CNH Social Program 2025, an initiative aimed at low-income individuals who dream of obtaining a license, but cannot afford the steps of the process.
Registration will open on April 1st, starting at 12 PM, exclusively through the official Detran website. The selection will be conducted in two stages: 3,500 spots now, and another 3,500 in the second call, scheduled for the second semester of this year.
Who Can Get the Driver’s License for Free?
To participate in the CNH Social program, certain simple criteria must be met. The program is aimed at those registered in CadÚnico (Single Registration for Social Programs of the Federal Government) and who have a family income of up to two minimum wages per capita.

The spots for a free driver’s license will be divided into three categories:
- First License: categories A (motorcycle) or B (car)
- Category Addition: for those who already have a CNH and want to add motorcycle or car
- Category Change: for categories D or E (buses, trucks, and trailers)
There are specific quotas within the program:
- 5% of the spots are reserved for people with disabilities (PcD)
- 13% of the spots are for former inmates and their families
What Does the CNH Social Program Cover?
The candidate selected for the free driver’s license program will have 100% of the costs covered by Detran. This includes:
- Medical and psychological exams
- Theoretical and practical classes in accredited driving schools
- Theoretical and practical exam fees
- Issuance of the definitive CNH (if the student is approved)
In other words, everything that normally costs between R$ 2,000 and R$ 3,000 will be funded by the program — with no charge to the student.
How to Register
Registration begins this Tuesday, April 1st, at 12 PM, and must be done through the Detran website of your state. It is important to fill in the data carefully, as the selection will be based on the information provided.
After the end of the registration period, the list of selected candidates will be published on the website, with deadlines for enrollment, document submission, and the start of classes at partner driving schools.
