Docas do Rio Registers Historic Revenue in 2020 and Projects 18% Increase in Revenue This Year
The Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro, responsible for the administration of the Ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, released the annual report for 2020 and the Business Plan for the 2021-2023 triennium. Last year, the company’s ports achieved a volume of 54.765 million tons of cargo handled, a growth of 8.6% compared to 2019.
Revenue reached the historic mark of R$ 639.1 million, an increase of 30% compared to 2019. For 2021, the total estimated revenue is R$ 742 million, a projection 18% higher than in 2020.
According to Jean Paulo Castro e Silva, Director of Market Relations and Planning at Docas do Rio, the performance in 2020 represents the largest annual variation for the period from 2015-2020, both in terms of cargo handling and revenue: “The result demonstrates not only the resilience of the terminals operating in the ports but also the ability to adapt and agility in the company’s management in response to the unprecedented challenges that arose in 2020, combined with the rise in iron ore and dollar prices.”
With the aim of a planned and organized growth of the company, Docas do Rio approved the Business Plan 2021-2023 with planned investments for the period amounting to R$ 2.1 billion, a sum that will be applied to actions related to port administration, ongoing leases, and new leases.
