United Arab Emirates Plans to Build the World’s Largest Airport in Dubai. The World’s Largest Airport Will Have a Capacity of 160 Million Passengers Per Year.

After numerous projects that impress anyone, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, is now also seeking to become the owner of the largest airport of all. Opened in 2010, the Al Maktoum International Airport was designed to become the largest and busiest in the world.

Also called Dubai World Central (DWC), the world’s largest airport is about 32 km from the city center of the United Arab Emirates. However, even after more than 10 years since it began operations in 2013, the space has not stopped growing.

According to the Dubai Airports authority, the world’s largest airport is expected to have the capacity to accommodate more than 160 million passengers per year and 12 million tons of cargo when it is completed. This means over 60 million more travelers than the busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, in the United States.

Airport in Dubai Continues to Grow Even After 10 Years

In 2023, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, stated that the short-term plan is to expand the capacity of Dubai International Airport (DXB), in the United Arab Emirates. This means increasing by 20 million passengers, buying time to expand the new business.

Currently, with about 86.8 million, traveler projections are 88.2 million and 93.8 million for 2024 and 2025, respectively. The executive also stated in an interview that the expansion of Dubai Airport could continue until 2050 due to the magnitude of the project.

Dubai Will Gain an Airport City

According to the executive, the business model of airports will be completely changed, making them much more intimate and freeing customers from all the inherited processes they have been subjected to for a long time.

Additionally, the mission is to transform the world’s largest airport into an aerotropolis. That is, a kind of airport city with the economy centered around Al Maktoum. Besides the airport, the Dubai South project, in the United Arab Emirates, plans to be an extension of the city covering 145 square kilometers south of Dubai.

Moreover, the construction of the largest airport in the world will have eight neighborhoods assigned to a specific industry or activity, including residential and commercial areas as well. Emirates, which will gain an engineering center valued at US$ 950 million, and its partner flyDubai, will also move from Dubai International to DWC.

Current Status of the World’s Largest Airport

Currently, the world’s largest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, located in Atlanta, a city that serves as a hub for many flights, including New York.

The title of the world’s largest airport is not for nothing, it justifies the magnitude of everything it offers. The international airport is one of the busiest in the world and even surpasses the giants of Beijing and Dubai in terms of passengers transported.

The world’s largest airport is enormous, with its own train lines between the boarding gates. The samples are indeed relevant and give hints of the site’s grandeur. However, more than just a beautiful airport, Atlanta is a wonderful city with a multitude of tourist attractions worth visiting.

Approximately 95 million passengers pass through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport each year, which has the highest number of landings and takeoffs in the world since 2005. The airport has five runways, with the longest being 3,624 meters in length.
