New Volkswagen Partnership Allows Its Electric Truck to Be Used for Fueling Airplanes in Brazil
For the first time in Latin America, an electric truck is being used to fuel airplanes with zero carbon emissions. This happened at Eduardo Gomes International Airport in Manaus (AM), thanks to a partnership made between Volkswagen Trucks and Buses (VWCO), Pioneiro Combustíveis, and BR Aviation. After some tests and training, VWCO’s e-Delivery is ready to deliver Jet-A fuel to BR Aviation’s customers in Manaus.
Objectives of Using the Electric Truck for Fueling Airplanes
The main objective of using the electric truck to fuel airplanes is to boost the decarbonization of the aviation sector and also support the promotion of development in the Amazon Region, in line with the strategic guidelines of BR Aviation and Pioneiro Combustíveis, which focus on businesses aimed at transitioning to cleaner and renewable energy sources. The partnership between the companies and Volkswagen presents a rapid opportunity to reduce the aviation sector’s impact on global warming.
According to a study conducted by Manchester Metropolitan University in 2020, aviation is responsible for about 3.5% of human contributions to global warming. With the use of electric trucks for fueling, one of the goals of the SustenAr program, launched by ANAC to stimulate improvements in various environmental aspects of Civil Aviation, is anticipated. The program indicates the replacement of fossil fuels in the ground airport fleet as a way to encourage sustainable solutions.

More Information About the e-Delivery, Volkswagen Electric Truck Used at Manaus Airport
The electric truck used to fuel airplanes in Manaus is the e-Delivery 11 from Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, which was already available in the market for urban deliveries. The model has a capacity of 11.4 tons and is equipped with an electric traction motor with a power of 408 hp (300 kW) and three LFP battery modules with a total capacity of 105 kWh, allowing for a range of up to 110 km. Additionally, it features an e-PTO system, which provides an electric power take-off outlet capable of supplying the necessary power so that the e-PTO motor can operate the fuel transfer system pump.
