The agreement between the companies, valid for three years, addresses topics such as the construction of nuclear power plants in Brazil, projects for the development of land and floating reactors, and waste management. The cooperation agreement includes other possibilities, such as construction techniques and fuel cycle. The document also allows for Rosatom’s involvement in market survey activities of the economic model.

President of Eletronuclear, Leonan dos Santos Guimarães, highlighted the importance of the agreement for the company and the development of nuclear power plants in Brazil. According to the website Valor Econômico, there is also a forecast of cooperation between the companies for the reprocessing of materials from nuclear power plants, closing the nuclear fuel cycle, and managing radioactive waste, in addition to implementing joint education and training projects in the nuclear sector.

“Brazil is one of Rosatom’s main partners in Latin America in various areas, especially in the field of nuclear medicine. I am confident that signing the memorandum will help us open a new phase of fruitful bilateral cooperation, as the country has been following a path to increase the participation of nuclear generation in the national energy balance,” commented Kirill Komarov, the First Deputy Director-General and Director of the International Development and Business Unit at the Russian company.

Recently, the Government Announced the Resumption of Construction of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant and Investments May Reach R$ 15 Billion

The Government announced in May that it would resume the construction process of the nuclear power plant Angra 3, located on Itaorna Beach in Angra dos Reis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. According to the announcement, it will also carry out the opening of proposals from companies interested in participating in the project, where investments may reach R$ 15 billion. About 18 groups purchased the tender and visited the site where the two buildings of the unit will be constructed – one to house the reactor (dome) and a second for auxiliary use.

The Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant is the largest infrastructure project planned in Brazil for 2021, with an estimated cost of approximately R$ 15 billion. The initial project of the nuclear power plant foresees the construction of two buildings, one to house the reactor and the other for auxiliary use. According to government information, the first stage in the construction process of Angra 3 consists of opening proposals from companies interested in participating in the construction of the project.
