Brazilian military platform gains international highlighting with multimission aircraft of high capacity, designed to operate in different scenarios, expand global presence and meet logistical, humanitarian and strategic demands with operational efficiency and embedded technology.
Embraer brought the KC-390 Millennium to FIDAE 2026, in Santiago, Chile, as the main showcase of its defense line at the fair held from April 7 to 12 at Pudahuel Air Base.
The company reported that this is the first presentation in Latin America of the demonstrator with the new paint scheme of the aircraft, positioned at the event as a multimission military transport asset aimed at tactical and strategic operations in different scenarios.
KC-390 Millennium gains highlighting at international defense fair
According to the manufacturer, the jet was designed to combine mobility, flexibility of use, and lower operational cost in a single platform, a combination that Embraer has been emphasizing in its commercial strategy for the international market.

In the official communication about the fair, the company also reinforced that the model has already been selected by the air forces of Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Uzbekistan, Slovakia, and Lithuania, expanding the program’s presence abroad.
Cargo capacity and operational versatility of the KC-390
The focus of the presentation is on the cargo capacity and the variety of missions that the aircraft can perform without requiring different platforms for each operational profile.

According to data released by Embraer, the KC-390 Millennium can transport up to 26 tons, flies at speeds of up to 470 knots, and can operate in cargo and troop transport, parachute deployment, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian actions, including on temporary or unpaved runways.
This operational design helps explain why the aircraft stands out at industry fairs and in the export campaigns of the Brazilian company.
In Embraer’s institutional material, the platform is described as a next-generation multimission aircraft, capable of combining high productivity with structural robustness, even in harsh environments such as forest regions, deserts, or icy areas, where logistical and maintenance demands tend to be higher.
Medical evacuation and air refueling expand military use
In the medical area, the configuration often presented in promotional texts tends to simplify the numbers, but Embraer’s technical data makes a more precise distinction about the internal cabin layout.
The manufacturer states that the KC-390 can operate with a configuration for 36 people and 50 stretchers, with 74 stretchers and 8 attendants, or even with up to 80 stretchers, depending on the arrangement adopted for the mission.
The aircraft can also perform air refueling missions, when it receives rapid installation equipment for air-to-air refueling, acting both as a tanker and as a receiver.

This point is central to the commercial positioning of the model, as it expands the range of military use without requiring a parallel fleet dedicated solely to that function, something that weighs in the cost and availability analysis by the interested air forces.
Alongside the transport capacity, Embraer highlights the command system and the onboard resources to reduce crew workload and enhance situational awareness during critical missions.
The technical page of the program mentions Pro Line Fusion avionics, fly-by-wire system, tactical radar, enhanced vision for low visibility, optional station for an additional crew member, compatibility with night vision, and an advanced cargo handling system, features that support the discourse of flexible operation in complex missions.
Expansion for surveillance and new international markets
In addition to the already established functions, the C-390 family continues to expand its capabilities.
In December 2024, Embraer and the Brazilian Air Force announced an agreement to deepen studies aimed at expanding the use of the platform in Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions, focusing on maritime patrol.
In April 2025, the manufacturer also reported the entry of the Portuguese Air Force into this development front, associated with a modular mission system.
This movement shows that the aircraft is being treated not only as a cargo or refueling aircraft but as a basis for new military applications, which could increase its relevance in future competitions.
At FIDAE 2026, this combination of logistical performance, versatility of use, and potential for technological evolution helps explain the prominent presence of the KC-390 at one of the main aerospace and defense meetings in the region, where manufacturers often use public demonstrations to support ongoing negotiations and open new commercial fronts.
In the Latin American context, Embraer’s participation in the fair also reinforces the attempt to consolidate the KC-390 as a regional platform with global ambition.
The company brought the model to Santiago alongside the A-29 Super Tucano, signaling the intention to present an integrated portfolio for customers seeking everything from multimission transport to light attack aircraft and advanced training, always emphasizing interoperability, operational flexibility, and cost reduction throughout the lifecycle.
