AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) ⇒ These are vessels specialized in anchor handling, towing, and supplying offshore units. They are commonly called platform tugs, but they are not mere tugboats; they are very versatile and multi-purpose vessels. They have the ability to tow large structures at sea, as well as serve as rescue and salvage vessels, and in firefighting operations. They are used in the relocation of platforms (DMA) during their anchoring and unanchoring, moving their anchors, transporting drilling and production operation equipment offshore, carrying bulk in dedicated tanks, such as fuels and water, chemicals, and other dry bulk like cement, barite, bentonite, calcium, etc… Most AHTS have the capacity to also operate as underwater support vessels due to their significant size and great autonomy at sea.
OSRV (Oil Recovery Supply Vessel) ⇒ ORSV type vessels are designed for the collection of spilled oil in oceanic regions. Therefore, they must be quick to reach the oil slick in the shortest time, preventing its dispersion, exhibiting good maneuverability ensured by the use of azimuth thrusters, and containing an effective oil recovery system capable of providing a better response to spills, equipped with specific, high-technology equipment to, for example, detect, vacuum, and store spilled oil. In addition to the function of containing and collecting oil, ORSVs also have firefighting equipment, such as high-flow pumps and water jet cannons, as they operate in explosive atmospheric regions.
