ROAM, a Kenyan and Swedish company specializing in electric vehicles, unveiled its electric motorcycle designed for urban and rural environments, named ROAM Air. This Wednesday (20), the manufacturer shared the details of the launch in a statement. It is important to highlight that the vehicle will come equipped with interchangeable batteries and could cost only R$ 8,000.
Electric Motorcycle Has a Range of 180 km
The company’s goal is to provide transport capacity, speed, and range, aiming to make the use of electric vehicles, which emit no pollutants, even easier. The CEO and co-founder of ROAM, Filip Lovstrom, emphasized that the model was tailored for various commercial use cases, such as safely transporting cargo or passengers. One of the features of the electric motorcycle is its compartment where a conventional fuel tank would be located.
The structure includes a system of interchangeable batteries that together offer a range of 180 km per charge. The battery capacity is 3.24 kWh per unit, totaling 6.48 kWh. The electric motorcycle delivers a nominal power of 3,000 watts, thus achieving a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

Electric Motorcycle with Interchangeable Batteries Costs Only R$ 8,000
Costing US$ 1,500, which in direct conversion is about R$ 8,000, the vehicle manufacturer claims it is very close to achieving cost parity with the price of other motorcycles that use combustion engines sold in Africa.
Focusing on the future, the manufacturer of the electric motorcycle claims it plans to increase production of its vehicle with interchangeable batteries to meet the high demand from its customers.
Finally, the new product is expected to enter the African market later this year after the company secured the largest investment ever for a mobility company on the continent, totaling US$ 7.5 million. Among the company’s other initiatives, the manufacturer has partnered with Uber to install over 3,000 electric motorcycles on the platform this year.
Brazilian Electric Motorcycle Hits the Market
A major competitor to Volts and Shineray is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle market in Brazil. The electric motorcycle from the Brazilian startup Watts Mobilidade is expected to compete with motorcycles like Shineray SHE S, Voltz EVS, and Super Soco. The vehicle features an engine that promises to offer power similar to that of 125cc motorcycles.
The model will enter the national market later this year and is currently only available through partnerships with the manufacturer. The Watts vehicle was built with the goal of keeping the national sustainable transport market even hotter.
The W125 offers two models: one with a single lithium battery and another with two. Each battery has 72V, 35 ah, and 2,000 charge cycles. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle, in addition to its excellent electric motor, has a range of up to 150 km, running at average power with two independent 72 V lithium batteries.
