With the aim of impacting 2,400 women by the end of 2022, the free online courses with certification in technology will allocate more than 55% of the spots for Black, trans, and transgender women. Interested individuals from all over Brazil can sign up

In order to contribute to increasing the female presence in the information technology sector and reducing the gender gap in the field, Reprograma, a São Paulo-based social startup, announces the registration for the third phase of Todas em Tech (TemT), a project aimed at teaching programming to women in vulnerable situations, preferably Black, trans, and transgender women. A total of 720 spots will be available in free online (EAD) courses with certificates for workshops that will select 120 women to form three classes of the Todas em Tech program.

With the aim of impacting 2,400 women by the end of 2022, the program will allocate around 55% of the spots for Black women and at least 5% for trans and transgender women. Within this total number of participants, 400 women will be trained as front-end and back-end developers.

The founder of {Reprograma}, Mariel Reyes Milk, explains that the goal for next year is to connect primarily with the female audience from the North and Northeast. “These regions, unfortunately, are already socially deprived of opportunities. Our focus is to create career opportunities for girls and women who dream of having a chance and for those who connect daily with the technology field,” she comments.

Empowering and training these women are among the values of TemT, as this is also made possible through partnerships with major companies in the sector, BID Lab, the Innovation Lab of the Inter-American Development Bank, Accenture, Creditas, Easynvest, Meta (formerly Facebook), iFood, and Nubank are among the supporters. Over a period of two years, approximately R$4 million will be invested in the educational development of these women – the amount of funding.

For the first semester of 2022, three classes will be available: two for back-end and one for front-end. Interested individuals in participating in Todas em Tech should register on the program’s website and submit a video of up to one minute in length. It is worth noting that trans and transgender women who do not feel comfortable sending videos can submit audio recordings.

The workshops aim to introduce the world of programming and development. In the front-end workshops, students will receive an introduction to HTML and CSS. In the back-end workshops, students will receive an introduction to programming logic and JavaScript.

After the workshops, 120 women will be selected for the third classes of the program: 80 for the back-end classes and 40 for the front-end class.

As a result of the learning from the workshops, students will produce a personal page to send to recruiters or clients, to encourage entry into the technology market. The online courses will start in March and will last for 18 weeks.

The spots are intended for women from any region of Brazil, with preference given to Black women and/or trans and transgender women. Registrations will close on February 4th.

Back-End and Front-End Courses

The front-end course classes will take place on an entire Saturday, and content reviews will occur on Wednesday nights. The back-end course classes will be conducted over an entire Sunday, and reviews will take place on Thursday nights. Additionally, students will need to complete a mandatory weekly assignment and supplementary activities. Office hours will be available to address any questions to aid in the development of the students.

There will be a total of four modules, with projects at the end of each, which will be conducted via Zoom, with live classes.

Below, check the topics that will be presented to the front-end class students:

  • Programming Logic: logical sequence to build a program, the types of data used, repetitions, decisions, and variables.
  • HTML and CSS: the first one is used to structure the regions and contents of a site, while the second deals with aesthetics, such as colors and fonts.
  • JavaScript: written codes that perform various activities, including updating part of a page to accelerate navigation, validating form data, and allowing games to be played within the browser.
  • Libraries and Frameworks: they group codes and help to work faster, also known as React.
  • UX Design: known as user experience, is an area of knowledge that involves the factors and principles that positively influence our perception of a digital product or service.
  • Git & Github: a version control system tool that is mainly used in software development.

The topics covered in the back-end class are:

  • Programming Logic: logical sequence to build a program, the types of data used, repetitions, decisions, and variables.
  • JavaScript: written codes that perform various activities, including updating part of a page to accelerate navigation, validating form data, and allowing games to be played within the browser.
  • API (Application Programming Interface): which serves to integrate two applications or to embed an application within another.
  • Node.js: a platform built on Google’s JavaScript engine to easily build fast and scalable network applications.
  • Git & Github: a version control system tool that is mainly used in software development.

As supporting material, students have access to a repository system with exercises and class content, through Github and Google Classroom. At the end of the two courses, all will receive a certificate of completion.

Job Openings Are Also a Serious Matter

After completing the training, {Reprograma} aims to connect the graduates in the technology field to work in major companies in the market. For this, they will receive assistance in assembling their resumes and portfolios.

The contact between the students and companies is facilitated through a connection platform between programmers and employers. Companies interested in gaining access to the {Reprograma} hiring platform should contact us through the form:  https://reprograma.typeform.com/to/aR9oYtnF
