During the Fair, Considered a Gateway to the Plastic Industry in Peru, Brazilian Companies Raised US$810 Thousand in Sales
Exhibiting high-efficiency machines and technological innovations, nine Brazilian companies participated in Expoplast, the international fair for the plastic industry, which took place from August 24 to 27. The event, held in Peru – a country that today has one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America – is one of the most important meeting points for the Latin American and South Pacific plastic industry.
Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association and ApexBrasil Reinforce This Partnership
Through the Brazil Machinery Solutions (BMS) Program, a partnership between ABIMAQ (Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments), the companies Boy Service, Delgo, Lakatos, Laserflex, Mecalor, Polimáquinas, Reinaflex, SEIBT, and Vizuri participated in the fair, which featured approximately 300 national and international exhibitors and more than 20,000 visitors.
“Expoplast showed a promising scenario for Brazilian exports. Only in the four days of the event, the companies that were with BMS totaled US$810 thousand in deals made in loco, with an estimate of reaching an additional US$3.95 million in business over the next 12 months,” explains Patrícia Gomes, Executive Director of External Market at ABIMAQ. The main destinations were Peru itself, as well as Ecuador and Chile.

It is worth noting that Peru was the 3rd largest importer of Brazilian machines and equipment for the plastic sector in 2021. The country imported US$7.6 million over the year, representing 8% of the total exported by Brazil during the period. In the first half of 2022, the country already handled US$4.5 million in Brazilian machinery, an increase of 46.3% compared to the same period the previous year.
Among the most exported Brazilian products to Peru in the sector in 2021, the following stand out: machines and equipment for working rubber or plastics or for manufacturing products from these materials; auxiliary machines for printing and printing machines and equipment, flexographic. Together, the three product segments account for more than 60% of the total value imported by the country.
OVERVIEW OF BRAZILIAN EXPORTS
In the ranking of the most important destinations for the export of machines and equipment from the plastic sector in 2021, the following are included: the United States, Argentina, Peru, the United Kingdom, and Chile.
In the same year, Brazil exported US$15 million to the United States, 16% of its machinery in the sector. Argentina imported US$14.1 million during the same period, while Peru handled US$7.6 million. The United Kingdom increased its share by 79% between 2020 and 2021, reaching US$7.3 million. Chile, in turn, reached US$6.4 million in imports.
Among the most exported Brazilian equipment in the plastic industry are machines and devices for working rubber, plastics, or for manufacturing products from these materials. In 2021, these items had a share of 27.4% within the sector, generating US$25.7 million. Another highlight is auxiliary machines for printing, which reached US$11.2 million in exports, a 27% increase compared to the previous year.
