A Few Months After Investing R$ 100 Million in the Parnaíba Basin, Eneva Discovers and Informs ANP About the Discovery of Natural Gas Indications in a Land Well in the Parnaíba Basin

The company notified the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) about the discovery of natural gas in a land well in the Parnaíba Basin, in the state of Maranhão. This is a significant step for Eneva towards expanding its reserves in the Parnaíba Basin, where volumes have already shown growth over the last few months.

Natural Gas in the Parnaíba Basin Totaled 25.2 Billion m³

According to the second-quarter report of 2021, published by Eneva, the natural gas reserves in the Parnaíba Basin, Maranhão, reached 25.2 billion cubic meters by the end of June.

This figure shows a 6.7% increase compared to the same period last year, which reached 23.6 billion cubic meters. The positive results in reserve expansion came at a good time, considering that Eneva also has news on the natural gas exploration front.

A few weeks ago, Eneva began drilling the land well 3-ENV-20-MA, also in the Parnaíba Basin, Maranhão. Last year, the company had already informed the National Agency of Petroleum about the discovery of natural gas and oil at the site.

Eneva Invests Over R$ 100 Million for Oil and Gas Discovery

Investing over R$ 100 million, the company launched a campaign in June to drill new wells in the Maranhão basin. Throughout 2021, the company plans to drill new development and exploratory wells in the state.

This campaign followed the company’s acquisition of 5,000 kilometers of 2D seismic data in 2020, which will continue until 2022. Despite the crisis caused by the pandemic, the exploration of land oil and gas wells in Brazil has remained steady, especially in land areas. According to ANP, from 2019 until the second quarter of 2021, 49 exploratory wells were drilled in the country.

A large portion of these were by Eneva in Maranhão. Of the 32 land wells drilled in 2020, more than half were in the Parnaíba Basin, Maranhão. In the Parnaíba Basin, there are ten commercial natural gas fields, five of which are already in production, and another five in development.

The total exploratory area exceeds 40,000 km² and has its own fuel supply infrastructure, with 203 km of its own gas pipeline network. The capacity of the Basin is 8.4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, and so far, 140 wells have been drilled where the success rate of pioneer wells is 35%.

Meet Eneva

Holding the title of being the only private energy generation company in Brazil experienced in E&P and access to natural gas in land wells, Eneva has an installed capacity of 2.8 GW, with 78% of this already in operation. 9% of the country’s thermal power generation comes from the company, which owns over 50,000 km² of area in the Amazonas and Parnaíba Basins.

The company’s mission is to be at the forefront of new energy frontiers, with reliability, responsibility, and competitiveness aiming to reach 4.7GW of capacity by 2023, being the most admired Brazilian energy company for its innovative capacity and performance.
