Natural gas in the Parnaíba basin totaled 25,2 billion m²

According to the report for the second quarter of 2021, published by Eneva, natural gas reserves in the Parnaíba Basin, in Maranhão, reached 25,2 billion cubic meters at the end of June.

The number shows an increase of 6,7% compared to the same period last year, which reached 23,6 billion cubic meters. The good results in expanding reserves came at a good time, considering that Eneva also has news in the area of natural gas exploration.

A few weeks ago, Eneva began drilling onshore well 3-ENV-20-MA, also in the Parnaíba Basin, in Maranhão. Last year, the company had already informed the National Petroleum Agency about the discovery of natural gas and oil at the site.

Eneva invests more than R$ 100 million for the discovery of oil and gas

Investing more than R$100 million, the company started a campaign in June to drill new wells in the Maranhão basin. Throughout 2021, the company has plans to drill new development and exploratory wells in the state.

This campaign took place after the company purchased 5 thousand kilometers of 2D seismic data in 2020, which will continue until 2022. Despite the crisis caused by the pandemic, the exploration of onshore oil and gas wells in Brazil has remained standing, especially in onshore areas. . According to the ANP, from 2019 to the second quarter of 2021, 49 exploratory wells were drilled in the country.

Most of these, by Eneva, in Maranhão. Of the 32 onshore wells drilled in 2020, more than half were in the Parnaíba Basin, in Maranhão. In the Parnaíba Basin, there are ten commercial natural gas fields, five of which are already in production, and another five are under development.

The total exploration area is over 40 km² and it also has its own fuel supply infrastructure, with 203 km of its own gas pipeline network. The Basin's capacity is 8,4 million meters of natural gas per day and so far there are 140 wells drilled where the success rate of pioneer wells is 35%.
