Epcor Redirected Its Focus to the Free Energy Market After Investing Approximately R$ 6 Billion in Wind Projects, and There’s No Denying the Gigantic Growth of the Free Energy Market, Where the Company’s Main Focus Lies.

Last Wednesday, (07/21), Epcor announced that it intends to redirect its investment focus to the free energy market. In this regard, the company has 430 MW of wind projects with Preliminary Licenses (LPs) issued and another 1.14 GW undergoing environmental licensing.

Exponential Growth for the Free Energy Market

According to research released in June 2022 by the Brazilian Association of Energy Traders in Brazil (Abraceel), the category already represents 36% of all energy consumed in the country. And as traders have been ramping up their production rates, the challenges in managing operations start to arise.

In this sense, Epcor Energia, a company founded in 1995 and a pioneer in Rio Grande do Sul, is currently developing over 2.3 GW of wind projects solely in RS and another 1 GW in Bahia. In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the company developed and structured two wind farms: the Corredor do Senandes Wind Complex, with 180 MW, whose first phase has been commercially operating since 2014, totaling 40 wind turbines of 2.7 MW, and the Povo Wind Complex, with 52.5 MW.

Currently, a new project is being developed and structured by the company, the Dom Pedrito Wind Complex at 220 MW, located between the municipalities of Bagé and Dom Pedrito, obtained through an investment fund. The complex has an issued LI and is negotiating energy trading in the free market. Epcor is now focusing its attention on energy auctions and is undergoing a revision of its planning.

“In this year of 2022, we are directing our wind projects towards the free market due to the advancement of some negotiations with players in the sector. We believe that auctions are a complementary alternative,” says the CEO of the company, Nilo Quaresma Neto. Additionally, the advantages of this contracting environment include potential savings on tariffs and a shift to renewable energy, as well as ensuring greater control and more efficient use of resources, he believes.

Get to Know a Little About Epcor

Thus, Epcor Energia is a Brazilian company focused on renewable energy solutions operating in both wind and solar matrices. Since 2008, its operations have been strongly concentrated on wind source projects, in which it is a pioneer in RS and holds leadership.

The company stands out for its capability to operate integratively across various stages of energy generation, conducting prospecting, structuring, execution, and operation of projects while always prioritizing the quality of its operations, presenting high capacity factors and guaranteed generation to better serve its clients.

In addition, the energy company has a wide range of services that comprehensively address all phases of development and preparation of electricity generation projects from wind sources.

In this sense, the company’s wind projects already total 3,000 Megawatts of capacity and have facilitated various actions in energy auctions. It also offers technical and commercial consulting for the implementation of wind parks, with qualified professionals and high technology that ensure reliability in development.
