Although the total number of thefts has decreased, two models stand out from the pattern. The Fiat Strada and the Fiat Mobi showed increases in occurrences, with variations of 29% and 10%, respectively. Fernando Correia, operations manager at Ituran, points out that the Strada is a preferred target in more peripheral areas, while the Mobi recorded significant growth in the ABC Paulista.
The Capital and Neighboring Cities
The capital city concentrates most occurrences, with 29,328 thefts in 2024 — a reduction of 14% compared to 2023. São Bernardo do Campo, Santo André, and Guarulhos also recorded sharp declines of 28%, 23%, and 10%, respectively.
However, the Fiat Mobi saw an alarming growth of 132% in thefts in the ABC Paulista, standing out as an outlier in the overall trend.
Most Targeted Vehicles: Age Matters
The Hyundai HB20, the top-ranked model, is the most stolen car when it is between two and five years old. According to Ituran, the age range of vehicles directly impacts theft rates, with a 21% decrease in models that are up to two years old.
Even with the overall reduction in figures, the data serves as a warning for drivers in the region. Greater attention is needed, especially for those with vehicles on the list.
