“I spent eight months just tracing the ship’s owner and convincing him to let us near it“, Moazzezi recounted. After finally obtaining permission, he and two other collectors traveled to Llanerch-y-Mor in early 2011.
Upon evaluating the machines, they realized the mixed condition they were in. Some were surprisingly well-preserved, while others had been damaged by leaks and vandalism. Despite the challenges, the team remained determined.
A Race Against Time
The problems didn’t stop there. During negotiations, the ship’s owners realized the value of the machines and raised the price to release them. After months of discussions, an agreement was reached. But there was one final obstacle: the team had only 10 days to remove all 50 machines.
From there, a race against time began. Moazzezi gathered a team of 12 collectors. Armed with vans, cranes, and a lot of determination, they worked non-stop.
In a true marathon, they faced the tight deadline and overcame all adversities. Against all odds, they managed to rescue the machines in time.
Restoration And New Life
The rescue was just the beginning. Many machines needed repairs after years of neglect. Moazzezi and his team dedicated themselves to restoration, working day and night.
Each cabinet was meticulously repaired, bringing back the flashing lights and nostalgic sounds of retro games. This process required skill and patience, but the result was worth the effort.
These machines were not just old objects. They represented a time when arcades were at the center of gaming culture.
For collectors, the treasure of the Duke of Lancaster had immeasurable value. Each restored cabinet offered a tangible connection to the golden age of video games.
Preserving The History Of Games
